I have an 04 12R that has a Race ECM, K&N, And a Drummer. All of that was installed by the previous owner by the dealership. The bike runs great and i love it, but if i take it out cruising for a day at least 3-5 times when its at idle and i snap my wrist a little as im about to engage the clutch it backfires (it feels like its spitting back into the Airbox because of the thud from under the airbox cover) It ALMOST stalls, it hasn't died on me once, but did almost leave me halfway through a corner in front of an oncoming truck, luckily it didn't completely stall and i could get back on it and get going. This is a very inconvenient and potentially dangerous issue that i thought i would ask you guys about before going to pay 60 bucks an hour to have the tech do what i could have done to solve this.

Hi there. My M2 (2000) kind of dies or dogs a little on take off too occasionally and at lower rpm's it sputters once in a while also. It just started doing it the last couple days. So I'll be watching this posting also.

Bert... On the tuber, what intake are you using? The forcewinders (which I really liked) didn't all have the carb vent bowl cut out correctly, or had a gasket in the way. That could do it.

Also, I had a wire near the coil end of the spark plug wires come loose for a few thousand miles. It would occasionally do just what you describe, but otherwise run perfectly. It finally popped off and stopped completely, and I just snapped it back on and was good to go again.

Hey Reep. I'm pretty much stock except for the exhaust, oh and an after market S&S look alike air cleaner. If worse comes to worse I'll just rebuild the carb and put new intake seals in. But I'll watch this string for awhile and try a few less invasive things first. Keep them coming.

Hey Viper sorry to use your posting, if you want I'll open another. Anyway today about 80-85 deg. drove approx. 8 mi in city traffic it started coughing, backfiring thru carb and exhaust. Pulled over and just barely would stay running or idle with all the fine belching and farting coming out of all the orifices. Well I shut it down and called for help. While waiting I poked and prodded around but could not find anything. So after 1/2 hour I thought what the hell and it started and ran like new. I finished driving to work and then drove home with no problems. What the heck? I am leaning to a bad sensor or a intermittent open or short. All advice is appreciated. (EDITED) I did open up a new post under (Intermittent??

oh, just an update, got my new spark plug wires on, they work awesome, smoothed out idle a little, starts a little easier, it still spits every once in awhile like it used to but not nearly as often, im assuming whats left of that issue is due to improperly gapped spark plugs and the fact that its got the K&N race ECU and a Drummer
