I have only changed oil in my '07 XB once and did it "freestyle". I saw that some custom sheetmetal funnels would keep it from dripping on the muffler, etc. Does anyone else bother or am I going too far with this concern?

It's up to you... it will eventually degrade your paint there... or at least it did on mine.

On the other hand, by the time that paint was a mess, the other paint on the can was a mess as well (rusty scrapes and rock chips), so I was at the point of pulling and repainting it anyway (just shoot it with a rattle can of black BBQ paint).

I sort of like the agricultural look, function over form seems to be in keeping with the design moto. Just my 2 cents. My fiance' does not like the look of the Uly without the chin spoiler, I guess it is time for some Tourtech stuff for me.

I use tin foil on the exhaust and all parts that come in contact with the oil. It forms to the bike and won't melt on the hot exhaust. The best part is it is disposable.

tin foil is a great tip.... I used card board...what a mess... seems like Buell made a bad decision to line up the oil drain plug perfectly centered over the exhasut pipe...

a sportster-sourced motor placed in a mass centralized frame design that clashed with the concept of easy maintenance. xbs took care of the prob

Me, being the maintenance nazi I am, always do the primary when I do the engine. That being said, I do the primary first since there are no such issues of that type, then after refilling it, cut the top off of the now empty primary oil bottle and guess what... I now have a damn cheap funnel that works as well as any!!!!
