Hey guys and gals. I have a 06 Ulysses with the airbox drilled (qty 3 1-1/2" holes on the left side" and ecmspy moded "thanks OPTI". I just got ahold of what I believe is a older XB muffler maybe a 9 without the flapper valve in it. I installed it last night to get a baseline. Did a TPS reset, then logged and adjusted a couple of runs. So the outcome, It definitely runs smoother on the bottom, no surging but has lost a little midrange. My question: Can I do anything to the muffler? I know I can send it to get drummerized but right now I don't want to spend $450.00 for that. Would it be worth cutting into or just leaving alone. I want a little more sound but really want the midrange back without the low speed surge. thanks, DS | ||

I gutted an XB12 muffler for a friend (we left an empty chamber with bulkheads intact and flapper valve removed...also cut off the last chamber) and it had a small midrange dip as well. All he used was a race ECM. Riding it the dip was not very discernible. It lost a lot of weight and gained a little up top with only $7 or $8 invested in a fancy exhaust tip. | ||

Ok, I cut the intermediate pipe from the rear of the tail section to the middle pipe out of the stock muffler and welded it together. It's louder, not crazy, but louder. About 94db at idle and about 98db at 2800rpm according to my littler radioshack digital meter. I'm sure I gain nothing in power but it definitely runs stronger than the stock XB9 pipe I had on it in the mean time. I may try something a little different in the middle section a little later on. I took it for a ride and logged data then adjusted it. No popping on decel and runs strong through the rpm without pinging. I'll see what kind of mileage I get. |
