I was just trying to get some opinions on the pile of blutooth intercoms. I am looking for one that would probably primarily be for recieving cell calls but may also be used for GPS and possibly to communicate with another nearby rider/passenger. The top two I have found seem to be the Scala Rider and the Chatterbox. The Scala Rider seems like it would do the job with a few accessories and is only a fraction of the cost of the chatterbox. Is there something I'm missing? Anyone have experiences with either or have some other system they really like?

help is much appreciated

I have this unit from BlueAnt on 2 helmets and I'd have to say they work pretty darn well. The intercom feature is just like talking on the phone, 2 way conversation that does not cut off the other person. When the other person is on their own bike, still great and the range is reasonable via bluetooth. If they are outta range, you just all'em on your cell...and the headset works great for that too. My only gripe would be they could be louder, but you know...it could just be my helmet is noisy.

We have the Interphones and they are AWESOME. Rob- have you put them into "high volume" mode? They have 2 volume ranges you can choose from, and several levels within each range...I ride a Lightning with race pipe and my gf a Blast with a Vance and Hines pipe (much louder than my Lightning!), and we have no issues with volume.

I have a Akuma Helmet and they just came out with a blue tooth system for there helmets but looks like it might fit other helmets, I have not received it so can not tell if it will,

it suppose to communicate with another one with in two mile range, has a output for headphones and is stereo so that is a plus for me I am a audiophile and need quality sound, I paid around 350 for it but have not received it to give a performance rating,

there is a Helmet with blue tooth built in for 500 dollars by Vemar, everything is built in so you do not see it and do not know much about it but that is another choice,

Akuma is coming out with a tint changing shield, and a tint on demand shield which is controlled by a switch on it,

Akuma has what they call the I S P system and has a battery built in with a wall charger already built into the helmets they sell,

they have on front wight light for reading maps with out taking your helmet off and rear red lights that flash or stay on for greater safety.

2 mile bluetooth range? Are you sure that isn't without some sort of bluetooth / FRS Radio adapter or something?

I emailed them Reep and should get back to me soon,

the site says's provides clear voice-activated communication on 3 900 MHz channels,

I know they are trying to be on the cutting edge of technolagy with there Helmets and I S P systems and even are going to have helmets that have lighted up graphics on the sides of the Helmets,

I am waiting for there tint on demand, with a touch of a button it will go from clear to dark, I have seen this on the science channel a few years ago and uses a electric current to work.

I will post when I know more.

Be very cautious of anything mounted in or on a helmet.

I'd wager, since maximum bluetooth range is generally in feet, that the system uses a BT to FRS interface.

Things have come a long way since I had a CB radio, FM/AM, cassette, intercom on my 1995 S2.

I'm using Bose hardwired earphones now but have been fitted for a set of customs that I haven't picked up. I'm trying to sort out how to handle the microphone. It is very cool though to get calls on the bike and see the dash light up "SCU Calling". It's funny now because I can hit "take call" and I can hear her but not talk back. We're using a code now that if I call back within 30 seconds (simply hit redial) it means I am on the bike and will call at the next stop.

I fear I may need to attach a portable generator to my bike. Two more boxes arrived yesterday from Littlelite and Signal Dynamics. As a pilot I can't be without an auxiliary dash lighting system with a red flood light.

I'll be eager to see what Mike learns. I'm going to start mount the "Maximum" style Autocom set up this winter . . . IF . . . I stop riding.

Hi Court I got the garmin zumo gps and has a microphone input and is linked to my phone through Bluetooth but could not find just a microphone,

I have had a few calls while riding and know what you mean about not being able to talk back,

I am also curios how this is going to work out for me and will post asap,

I still have not got a shipping date and can take up to ten days after I get the shipping date to receive it, so I think they are building them as fast as the can to keep up with demand, two months ago they did not have it or could tell me anything about it, so this is very new and think they are building them as fast as they can so do not know how long it is going to take to get it.

will be nice to be wire free and if it works good I will buy one for my son and then will be able to tell how the bike to bike communication works.

I don't really mind the wires but then I got used, while I was doing lots of coast to coast riding, to riding with both electric cables and water tubes running into the helmet. I find the Bose cables unobtrusive.

I **think** I can make a microphone by simply taking one from a cell phone headset and installing it in a helmet. I'm going to put it in an Arai helmet and use velcro. It's a bad habit of mine but I never drill, screw, attach or use adhesive on the body of a helmet.

Dat's a fac Jack!

I'm going to send something to Ben for his tinkering enjoyment. It's a Motorola electronic switching panel from a high end Syntor XX system.

You can never put too much stuff on a bike, right?

By the way, package arrived . . . can't wait to dig in to it!

We're all bozos on this bus!

By the way . . . if you are doing audio on a bike don't miss "Maximum Mods". I'm running into class but in my opinion it's the gold standard of Buell modifications. Great content, awesome integration. Someone can dig it up.

Cool!

When you hook up that relay delay, let it turn on and run for a minute or so, then put your thumb on the transistors and make sure they are not too hot to touch.

I think you will be fine, but I made another one for somebody last night and tested it with a relay from an 85 KLR-250. The relay had a much lower resistance coil, and drew a lot more current, and running the transistors pretty hard.

I think you will be fine, a relay from my HID kit and a relay from an 05 Sienna were perfect... so I think it was just that particular relay that was the issue. You know how precise and refined 1985 KLR's were ; )

If it is too hot, a 79 cent part from Radio Shack will solve the problem.

Court what is Maximum Mods, a web site, or show?

I lucked out getting an audio Boss which controls volume, balance, bass, and treble, and can be hooked up to a amp.

I thought they started making it again but when it would not work they said they have not made them in years but have other speakers, amps, and volume controler

www.mhinstruments.com stopped making this along time ago but the place I bought it from must have had some left over and when I seen it I bought it in may and came with a one year warranty and the one I had got moisture in it and corroded and did not think I was going to get one back,

they now make a volume control called the Crank Case but no bass, treble, or balance and thought I would get the Crank Case back instead of the Audio Boss that I sent them but got back a new original unit.

the only problem is it is not bluetooth and would have to buy the bluetooth converter to use it and do not know if it is going to work know, I would have to run the output from the Zumo into the Audio Boss and then get a bluetooth adapter for the output so do not know if I am going to be able to use it unless I go with there 100 watt amp and speakers which are big,

I have found mirrors with speakers in them which retailed for for 800 but now 100, do not know if I trust them and really do not think I would like the sound it would put out.

Anyway trying to figure out how to buy the new 2009 XBSs in the spring, I can not resist the all black one.

OK Guy's just got the email from Akuma and she said there is nothing else needed to communicate between bike to bike up to two miles.

Hi Reep that is what I had written above and will repeat it.

provides clear voice-activated communication on 3 900 MHZ channels.

I am impressed by the two mile range and will let you guys know if it can be attached to any helmet,

they have a battery built in for a front led white light good at night after I lock the bike up and turn the lights off I can still see or to read a map at night, and they have two red lights in the rear and both have switches in the chin bar of the helmet,

I do not know if it taps into this system which they call the ISP system.
