To start with, I have a 2000 M2 Cyclone with 25,000 miles. It seems to be in pretty darn good running condition but I get terrible gas mileage! After running about 10-15 tanks of gas I started wondering what was going on. Here is the run-down. 5 gallon tank. By the time I hit the reserve I have gone 75-80 miles. So 4 gallons used during this time. 18-20 miles per gallon. Can somebody give me some advice what could be wrong? I try to not use the choke too much and am careful about that. Carb has been rejetted with ignition advancer by dudley perkins. Could spark plugs be the prob? Haven't checked them yet. |

I'll start looking but my 2000 M2 gets 46 to 48 mpg highway city combined and 150 mi. before reserve. |

Also my carb is stock but with a V&H muffler and aftermarket air cleaner. Would the rejetting cause it to run so rich? And why did you need it. |

Ok, maybe Idle speed cause I'm always messing with that, but I keep it around 1k so probably not. Possible vent plugging. I'll check. Enricher valve not seated correctly...I'll have to check on that. Thanks for all the help. I'll see if any of this works and keep up posting. |

As far as rejetting is concerned, I got the bike that way so i didn't have much choice. I love the bike but it uses as much gas as a car. If it is running too rich will that also affect the performance? |

Quentin You can always change the jetting. Read your plugs and start from there. Do you have any other problems with the Bike? If it is two rich it will give you poor fuel economy and poor performance. I believe that you should expect low to mid forties for MPG with your setup. Joe |

It would be hard to believe that running rich would cut your mileage in half or more, without it running unbelievably poorly. My 2000 M2 gets 45 MPG consistently, and I tend to get in the throttle quite a bit. Like you I have the V&H and a forcewinder, and I keep my idle at 1k, and some cams that need me to keep it above 3K most of the time I'm riding. Like Joe said, read the plugs and work from there. |

Ok, so before I leave the house today, I'll check the plugs. Thanks again guys! Hope I find the problem. |

What is the deal with the ignition advancer by dudley perkins? If that is not a stock item, what else is changed in the ignition system? For instance, if you are not running the stock vacuum switch (I forget what it is called) that senses high manifold vacuum and switches high and low ignition advance curves, you may be driving around with a fixed advance curve that is not ideally suited for economy. |

Aslo, assuming you've used 4 gallons when you hit the reserve level is not necessarily a good assumption. How much fuel is needed to refill the tank when you hit reserve? That will give an accurate accounting of exactly how much fuel you've used since you last filled the tank. |
