I just bought the xb9r and I am wondering a few things. First the valve train seems noise at idle. Is that normal? And second it doesnt seem like it has 92 horspower. It is reall hard for this bike to do more than 120mph. I did the airbox mod so could it be running lean? Anybody else had this problem. Oh and one more thing I noticed is that its not all that smooth at idle. It doesnt seem like its missing it just seems a little rough.(compared to a jap bike) Like I said I just bought it and its my first one so these things could be normal. It starts right up everytime and has new plugs and I just had the tps adj. Thanks for any info.

Noisy valvetrain: Normal.

Tough to do 120+mph: You ought to be able to hit 130 to 135 indicated. Not into a head wind though. You may have a point re the airbox mod.

Not smooth at idle: Normal. It's a rude ride with attitude. Enjoy. : ]

And welcome to BadWeB. Hoorah!

All sounds normal. 92 HP is at the crank, its probably more like 78 at the road. About perfect for a middleweight sporting twin.

Don't know about top speed, but there are so many variables with that, and a 10 mph difference at that speed (120 versus 130 mph) is far more likely to be a factor of aerodynamics then it would be of engine performance. Altitude and ambient temperature have a significant impact on engine power as well.

I did my first track day at Mid Ohio last year, and had two interesting observations.

I spent 99% of the time, even on a closed course track with corner workers, clean maintained asphalt and an ambulance on standby, without the throttle all the way open. 95% of the time, the bike had more power then I could use.

The bike was the same after the trackday as it was before the trackday, yet I was a faster rider on the street. Interestingly, I was also a safer rider on the street... my speed only increased a little, but the envelope of what the bike and I could do increased significantly.

You do the math ; )

$150 won't get you squat in performance upgrades, and it might get you a full day on the track...
