I was looking through my manual last night to figure out how to check and adjust the static timing on my 2005 XB12S. I notice that American Sport Bike sells a transparent window that goes in place of the timing plug. Is it necessary or easier to use the clear plug?

Are there any tricks to make checking the timing easier?

The plug seems like it would make using a timing light/gun possible? Is that the case?

Thanks

1)with the timing plug off rotate the engine until you see the mark .
2)hold the mark in the middle of the window
3)loosen the 2 little bolt holding the timing pack
4)switch in run position and turn the key on
5)rotate the timing pack (just a little clockwise and counterclock) , when the fuel pump start running that's the exact point hold it and tighten the bolts.
not 100% sure ....in my case it worked fine.
bye Alessio
