I picked up a new '06 Uly this week which only had 38 miles on it.

Since the bike has been sitting for two years do you think I should put some fresh oil in? I was also concerned about the old, stale gas which has been in as well. I think I'll run some fuel system cleaner through just in case.

Any suggestions?

Drain the gas, change the oil (both holes), bleed the brakes, air the tires, inspect belt, get a manual. Break it in according to spec.

HAVE FUN!!!!!

What Jerry said, charge the battery fully and check out the threads on the clutch cable hanger near the header, install the upgraded hanger if not installed.

Congrats on the bike!

My take on things would be this. Gas goes bad from sitting, new oil doesn't. Be careful with the fuel system cleaners, I'd just put new gas in it. See if you can put 1000 miles on it this weekend, and then do your 1000 mile service. Everything gets changed then.

Thanks for the info. I'm doing a complete fluid purge today. It will help become more aquainted with the bike.

My advice for the first time you remove the lower cowling to get access to the oil filter.

Work the screws out carefully and if one feels like it is starting to bind (they have loctite) then advance the screw, add some lubricant for loosening screws and work it in and out a bit at a time until it comes all the way out.

They can cause problems.

The bike has all new fluids now. Brake, primary and oil. The oil was nasty and reeked of gas. Makes sense since they start them twice a day to move them out and then at the end of the day back to the garage.

I haven't figured out how to drain the fuel without a pump.

I looked up the procedure in the service manual. There is a drain plug on the bottom of the fuel pump. They say to replace the plug with a new one after you drain it. Also to remove the power cable from the pump and run the bike till it stalls to depressurize the system so it won't spray.
