a little history , i bought the bike over the winter and trucked to my house , it sat in a non heated garage , was only started once when delivered ran for a couple minutes and shut off , sat for 1 month , filled with fresh fuel , and fowled a plug right from the get go , sent to dealer , new plugs installed , only been riding for a couple weeks , cold starts (near freezing and no warmer than 10c)starts and stalls within 1 second , refires right away , bike when hot still at times coughs through intake in stop and go traffic , has improved alot with use , it now has 512kms , it has been back to the dealer (new dealer only open a few months)twice to check for codes , intake leaks etc all ok , (dealer service is first rate) is this something that will go away with time and break in ? this is the only xb12x withing 300kms that i know of and have no others to compare to , i do love the bike though

these bikes are a bit cranky when cold, especially when new. The stall immediately after start up in cold temps is pretty normal. Just restart it and let it warm up a bit.
Your mileage is still quite low, put some more miles on it and see if it starts to run better.

I would hold off doing anything until you have some miles out of breakin (5000)to see if the systems compensate for the condition. But while you are putting the miles on it check out ECMSPY2. This is sure to be a fuel problem. But don't rule out a sensor failure or connection though it doesn't sound like a failure. Keep an eye on your plugs(read your plugs)at oil changes.

if the ecm is waiting to "learn" and compensate it is one slowwwww SOB , just for kicks i removed both plugs , both front and rear are a light brown , if it were car plugs i would say it is good , they were removed after a 400 km run , the warmer it is outside the less nudging i have , but when its near freezing its worse , the cough at take off in stop and go driving is only happening once every couple day's now , the bike has just over 1000 kms , it is now run fairly hard but not over 6000rpm , if it were a carb bike i would rejet it , i don't want to get into ECMSPY , buell made it and they should be coming up with a remap , to meet emissions a car and bike manufactures tune them very close to the edge , i'm pretty sure this is my problem (lean surge) , what is the # for buell tech or customer service , i would like to know if they are aware and working on it

other than this concern i do love riding it , tons of fun !!!

a little update on my concern , it has recently been in for it's first service , the dealer rechecked for codes none , runs a ton better but in my opinion it still seamed to surge a bit below 3000 rpm and a few times a week it would cough in stop and go traffic on takeoff even hot highway speeds worked great , i decided to do some investigating tonight for myself , i always said the exhaust was too quiet and when idling the exhaust note seamed a bit wheezey , i did know the bike has an exhaust valve so i did some experimenting , i unhooked the cable and i presume letting it go it would close the valve off , pulled cable all the way i think its open , the exhaust "wheeze" open goes completely away , i rehooked the cable and i found the acuator would not pull the cable completely open , only like half way , i did the throttle open before turning on the key and it does move , i though this was a bit wierd that the cable was not pulled to its limit of travel , while messing with the acuator a snap occured and the next self test i did the cable now is pulled to its travel limit but does not let the cable pull back as far as it used to , i put the bike back together and did a quick run down my road , i could not make it backfire anymore and the below 3000 rpm surge was gone , exhaust note sounded like the engine was breathing alot better and now sounds like a hd engine , i did not find it to have any more power than before , but it was dark and there is deer around , did i just fluke my way into the problem , i would like to know when the valve opens wide open and when it closes , i have yet to recieve my manual , if the valve was disconnected and the cable held open would it cause any ill effects that anyone knows of , or did i break the acuator past its stop and now in need of replacement ? its raining tomorrow and will have to wait to see how it performs , thanks in advance for any replies
