I changed the oil in my trans today after putting on a new clutch cable (the last one snapped in the middle of a ride) and found three small, about 1cm long, twisted strands of what looks to be wire. they are a little thinner than a toothpick... not sure where it came from... what should i check out before riding?

Probably from your clutch cable.

Might want to remove your primary cover and check the primary case cavity for more wire. If you have the old broken clutch cable, you may be able to inspect it, scrutinizing it closely along with the pieces you found and then determine if or if not it is likely that you found all the bits and pieces.

They aren't needle bearings are they? Those are about as thick as a toothpick at the fat part.
