Adjusted my primary chain as it was starting to sound like a combine harvester that just swallowed a Volkswagen.

Changed out the primary/gearbox oil again as it had some fine metal on the magnetic plug about 1000km ago.

It has fine metal there again!

Not hard on the beast at all. Just the usual 3 hour ride at 70mph in 5th gear commuting to work and back.

Problem?

What do you guys think?

Mileage?

Since the metal is on the magnets, I assume it's iron or steel, not aluminum case material. I think a "little bit" of fine shavings is OK, but I'd hate to take a guess at your situation sight unseen.

Might be worth pulling the primary cover off and looking for any worn, shiny places that don't look like they belong. All it costs is a couple of gaskets and an hour or two in the garage.

11500km on the clock.

Pulled the case to check it out and all looks sweet.

The clutch basket moves a little though. Almost like the input bearing is going south but the adjuster shaft seems solid.

Will be taking it out for a spin now that the chain has been adjusted properly.

Will let you all know what I find.

Small metal filings are normal. Keep an eye on the oil when you drain it.

Getting paranoid as it developed an engine vibration after about 1000km and has never returned to normal.

Scrutinize all exhaust tract mountings and clamps for good tightness/integrity.

Where are you noticing the vibration, in the handlebars, on the foot pegs, through the seat, the entire bike? And is it at all speeds or for a particular engine or road speed? In neutral or other specific gear or in any gear?

From go to whoa.

Smooth as silk for the first 1000km and then as posted on this site the vibration gremlin decided to visit and just does not want to leave.

Have had one error pop up on ECMspy. AIT grounded or something like that.

Have changed plugs, checked the wiring for the head temp sensor and re terminated it.

Reset the tps and AFV a lot with both VDSTS and ECMspy.

Mostly happens after a 2 hr ride and the fuel level is starting to get low/hot? in the frame.

Exhaust is all good.

Both are now starting to get blue at the heads.
