I am doing a Racetech Gold Valve to my stock 1999 X1 Rear Shock. My service manual shows no information about disassembly of the shock, nitrogen refill requirements, type of oil, amount of oil. I have the valve stack suggested for my bike, weight and such from Racetech, does anyone have this info for me please? Thanks.

The manual does not consider the rear shock "serviceable".

Hopefully someone who knows more will chime in.

Good luck.

Take it to a suspension person.

They will have all the gear and the knowledge to do it right.

You may just get by but it will more than likely cost you the unit in the long run.

I work at a shop, just FYI, I called Racetech, you have to compress the rear end to expose a cir-clip, after that is removed then the case slides off quite easily. The Gold Valve kit is quite extensive and as they provide the optimum valve stack for my weight and type of riding, I should see dramatic improvement. The nitrogen is a 185 psi and 10 weight fluid, as well as SSOS14 seal, same as a CBR 600 seal. I should be fine. Thanks so much and I will post the results.

Just in case anyone is interested. The shock has many circlips that we are finding, we are making tools as we need them to actually remove the clips, not as easy as it sounds. The guys are Racetech are really good in case you are wondering, I give them high marks for being accurate in their tech dept on the phone, low marks for included instructions that would eliminate the phone calls. The valving is a nice system, we are almost at the point to take the "unserviceable" shock down to it's bare components and revalve it and stack it. I will post up further info, but the circlips so far total four to get it down to the shock itself.

Great to finally have some one posting about revalving/rebuilding one of the old Buell shocks.

There are two internal circlips that are really tough to get out, once those are out I will be able to revalve it, I will try to take some pictures of it...I just hope it works actually, but racetech seems quite confident that it will.
