Hi Guys, Just noticed something today, since I have owned my 04 XB12R it has always started first time first press of the button. Now I have owned it for a month using it for commuting to work about 25km's round trip and the occasional ride on the weekend.Today I tried to start her and it needed three tries and I mean turning off the key then pressing the button before she started,is this normal? and do Buells flood easily? ,I just don't want to foul my plugs so any advice on the starting procedure would be appreciated. Regards Tobycat |

Might consider taking the long way home from work maybe something more than 40km's or so.If you don't have a battery tender you might consider one. Then look into ESMSPY. Joe (Message edited by bad_karma on March 28, 2008) |

Hi Guys, Just a further note to this.We are heading into Winter here in New Zealand and have had a few frosty mornings. My XB12R has proved to be even more reluctant to start on these days, requiring several more cycles of turning on the key and then trying the starter usually the engine catches once then dies about the fourth go I can catch it with the throttle and gently warm her up from there , funny though at midday when its warmer she will start first time??? talk about cold blooded, Any ideas? new plugs? TPS reset?. Regards Tobycat |

A TPS reset wouldn't hurt. A new set of plugs might not be a bad idea either. To avoid fouling the conventional wisdom is to avoid blipping the throttle, especially when cold. I also agree that a longer ride to and from work would be a good idea. |

Hi Again, Thanks for the replies, well this has all turned into a bit of mission.I checked the sparkplugs on the weekend and they were NGK DCPR7E's they did have a bit of carbon on them. After checking here I contacted our local Dealer on Monday who confirmed they were the wrong plug for the XB12R so I purchased two HD 10R12A's and installed those, Wow that rear plug is a SOB to install. I was more nervous threading that plug into the head than when my son was born. Anyway I checked the airfilter and it was filthy and looked very old so I installed the K&N filter I had stored with other my race kit items (due for install soon).I went for ride and the bike started better and I think ran alot better as well. One question I do have is though, is it ok to use the K&N filter on a stock bike stock ecm & exhaust? I am upgrading to the race ECM and pipe soon.I thought in the interim the K&N would be better than the ageing dirty old filter that had bits of blue rubber flaking off it Yuk!.My bike seems alot happier now but if the K&N is risky I guess depending on when I can do the upgrade another stock filter is the way to go.
