I have a 98 Buell M2 that I bought. I wish to make a chopper out of. It is also in a posting in (Chassis). Most of the bike is missing or junk. Well some parts I may be able to sell but not many. I need to talk to someone that knows what to do or has done this. I wish to use the motor/tranny and the front end/rim/brake and rear rim/brake/sprocket. Please help me. Jim.

You'll probably be better off logging into a chopper site or seeing if some of the chopper frame companies have discussion forums tagging onto their commercial sites. There are several folks on the site here into choppers, and some have done a few projects. I also saw a couple of books down at a local bookstore on the subject.

So, with that said, and not really knowing what you are looking for as far as info goes, it's kind of hard to give any real input. Not that I've got much to give beyond finding a frame, putting all the carryover components on it, wiring it up, plumbing it, and getting it running once you've got it set up how you want it configured. From Mutant to Paughco (sp?) to others there are lots of options to choose for frames, and then deciding if you want to run the stock carryover forks, and going from there.

I will say that it seems like the Custom market is sort of shifting from the fat tire long fork stretched frame format over to a more skinny tire board track racer look. Don't know if you're looking to do this to sell or to build something to ride for yourself.

No no! He should stay here! How else will he learn that cutting a Buell frame has been known to release a complex chome-moly mysteria gas that will attack the nerves at the base of the spinal column and render him impotent?

Or that rigid mounting a Buell motor will cause vibrations that will create a tertiary harmonic of the third ordinal and re-order the neural synapses, often causing spontaneous gender preference reversal?

No, we have to tell him. We can't let it happen again! : )

Oh, I forgot about "The Wrath".

Most people don't know this, but "The Wrath" is a secret but really cranky Motorcycle Club.

They have "enforcers" that ride around in minivans dressed like suburban moms, complete with robotic kids in the back seat. You can identify them by their secret symbol on the back window... the blunt mace. It's a symbol of a mace that has been used so much the spikes have been worn to mere flat pads. To the uninitiated, it looks kind of like a soccer ball. These guys are *everywhere*.

Anyway, this groups founder was one of the original RS1200 owners, and loved the bike. But he took it to his local Harley shop to be refurbished while he went on a mission in Afganistan (all members of "The Wrath" are also active military special operations guys,). While he was gone, somebody at the dealership accidentally thought it was a trade-in and cut it up to make a chopper.

When the guy returned to find his beloved Buell cut up, he launched a mandatory vandetta for all members of "The Wrath" to find and kill anyone riding a chopperized Buell. One second they are riding around on their cool custom motorcycle, when a minivan with a soccer ball passes the other direction pretending not to notice them... and the next day they disapear *forever*.

Yeah. "The Wrath". I almost forgot about them. Please, for your own sake, don't cut up any Buells!

First of all I will not cut anything. Second, if I thought it was worth it I would rebuild it. Just stop by and I'll show you. 30 some yrs. ago I rebuilt a basket case 1949 Harley 45 ci. and it took 3 years plus. And that was before the Internet. I wish I had all the phone bills. I ended up selling it for 3 grand. Yea a real money maker. I also had a 74-74 that I sold for 3800 and had rebuilt it 4 or more times. Yea I had it for a lot of years. But I really wish to build a chopper now with this Buell and if you do not want to help me that,s OK. Another thing is all the parts I do not need can be recycled right here at BWB.com. So is it all Buell or Custom to fit you or maybe a work of Art. I have a 2000 M2 that I have numerous after market parts on it and it drives and runs fine so I will keep it. So why did I not use that for my project? Because it works.

Do you know what style you're thinking of? Do a search on Wrath(or Wraith or something like that), really, and see their (what I call) humpback low seat frames. Paughco has been around awhile, and some say their bare frames need a little finish work, but their formats run from long a low to short and tight depending upon what you're looking for. Also check the archives on the site here for other people's builds.

Some sites for ideas:
http://www.mcworx.com/frames.html

http://thekneeslider.com/archives/2006/03/29/buell -sport-chopper/

http://www.brewracingframes.com/id26.htm

http://chopper.custombike.org/buell_chopper.htm

http://www.custom-choppers-guide.com/buell-chopper s.html

http://www.twobitchoppers.com/chassis.htm

Mutant frames are popular:
http://www.bikernet.com/bikebarn/PageViewer.asp?Pa geID=550

http://www.bikernet.com/bikebarn/PageViewer.asp?Pa geID=550

Paughco:

http://www.paughco.com/2003_catalog/page84.htm
http://www.paughco.com/2003_catalog/page85.htm
http://www.paughco.com/2003_catalog/page86.htm
http://www.paughco.com/2003_catalog/page83.htm

Then there's the flat tracker, board tracker, street tracker styles:

http://www.storzperf.com/

http://www.mcadvantages.com/index.cfm?fuseaction=c Products.view&productid=6589&cids=-1,41,490

Lots of ways to go. Post a pic if you want of what you're starting with.

There was even a recent thread on the site here that you might have seen about Buell Cafe Racer styles.

It will be interesting to see what you come up with.

Hey Thanks Guys. Especially Mikej for all the postings. I am leaning to a frame that accepts the engine and front and rear end components (proper rake and strech for Buell forks) with 4" ground clearance from (Bitterendchoppers.com). I'll try and get the oiltank, batt. tray, rear fender, and approx. 4 gal. fuel tank from them also. The frame is short and low. I want a spring seat, and wishbone pullbacks. I can see it in my head I just need to find the right components. I also have a torch, welder, mill lathe combo, and lots of tools. I'll try to get some pictures of both bikes here soon. I'll want to put everything together for fit and finish then tear it down for powder coating and paint. I'll also make my own wiring harness. Hey another thing I've got a chain drive on this one and will use that, but how the heck do they use a belt drive on a hard tail? Thanks again. Jim

Nevermind on the rear belt I've allready figured it out. I talked to Al at Bitterendchoppers.com and they don't sell just the frame (not enough profit) unless it's a rolling chassis. But if I order some other stuff they may build one for me. Also Mcworx.com looks real close or exactly what I want (The Street Fighter Frame). I want to thank Mikej again.

All in good fun Bert, no hard feelings. It's a free country.

Unless you are cutting up an S2. Then we really would be mad : )

Hey Reepicheep I appreciate it. I originally bought it to make it like new. But after I drove 7 hrs. there and back in the rain and really looked at it you would probably do the same thing. The engine sounds strong and I need to do the rocker box gskt. thing. I could have sold it as is (no profit there or even breaking even) or piecing it out (not an option) so the other option was make something that I would like to drive as a short trip bike. I like factory bikes but also like custom stuff. Some of the best parts come out of people that have a better idea. See Arlen Ness or others (I have actually shaken his hand at Sturgis) (A Red 2 engine V Twin in a frame). I have pictures of it from approx. "1990". The so called loose screws sometimes come up with some inovative products. If I could just make 1 I could retire early. Hey see ya later. Jim

Any reason you went with a rigid istead of a softtail set up?

I guess I have always wanted to build a hard tail. Maybe next winter I'll do a softtail if there's any money left from this project. Yea right, like it grows on tree's.

Looks to be an interesting project.
What's the other motor to the left of the above picture? Does it have a home?

That's actually looking pretty good.

I have an old hardtail frame I've been thinking of doing something with... but I think I'm going to go a different route with the powerplant.

What pipe is that? I like it.

Wow, I wouldn't want to be a passenger on that hardtail! Do you think it will be string enough to support one? How is the fender mounted?

The pipe is custom made by Twisted Choppers and not cheap. And I would not want to ride on the rear either but the fender is mounted fairly strong.
