I'm looking for a louder pipe than my Vance & Hines SS2R. The bike had a race kit installed at one point but the race pipe was replaced by the V&H (all by previous owner) Q # 1 - What do I look for in the header to know whether it is the race header or the stock? I need to figure that out before I buy another pipe so I get the fit right. There is a decent pic showing my header on my profile if someone can just tell me which one I have. Thanks. Q # 2 - Is drummer pretty much the loudest pipe available? I don't want to gut mine because I know it will cause a lot more wear/vibration and most likely lose power. | ||

Need to see a pic from the left front of the bike. Can't tell from your profile pic. If your muffler mounts DIRECTLY to the header, it's a race header. If your muffler has a 90 degree bend before mounting to the header, it's a stock header. If it looks like the one in my profile pic, it's stock. I have a D&D on mine and it's pretty loud. Just measure the header's collector: if it's 2.5 inches wide, it's the race header, anything less is a stock one. If you're just doing a slip on the loudest I've heard is the D&D, and I've seen them listed on ebay recently. Assuming you have the stock header, I BELIEVE that the D&D slip on with the connecting "elbow" will work for you. Good luck. | ||

Here's the D&D web page: http://www.danddexhaust.com/catalog/2005/07/42612b .htm If you decide to go with them, make sure you get the "mid pipe" along with the muffler. I see some on Ebay with and without the "mid pipe". This is the pipe that bends 90 degrees so you can mount the muffler. All tuber headers from 99-02 are 2.5 inches at the inlet. update: I went with the D&D and couldn't be happier! The sound gets compliments from strangers, complaints from everyone riding behind me, and dirty looks from the neighbors when I go to / get back from work =D A small performance boost over the old V&H as well, and the biggest surprise to me was better fuel economy. | ||

I can't imagine using anything louder than my V&H. It already sets off car alarms, drives dogs crazy, rattles my neighbors windows, and makes small children cry! But hey,more power to ya brother if you like the sound.  | ||

Glad you like the D&D. I went from a V&H SS2R to the D&D, and then onto the Buell race kit.... I miss the D&D pipe. BAD. And 5liter is right...not all 2.5 inch collectors are race headers. | ||

I went out on a "Streetfighter" ride on the weekend and actually had one of the Harley sales guys tell me that he dropped back from behind me because my V&H was too loud. | ||

I LOVED the V&H on my blast, which is why I was more than a little disappointed with it when I purchased the X1. I got a much deeper, "mean" sound out of the blast than the X1. The other day I got caught in rain when the truck in front of me hit some water and some must have gone into my intake because one cylinder started missing for the next few seconds. With one cylinder out of commission it sounded like the blast all over again ;] |
