I own a 1996 Buell S1 Lightning (found it in a barn two years ago.3500 orig miles). Runs great/no complaints!
- My problem has happened once before and i cannot remember the remedy!
-Bike starts fine, engine runs great. When shifting from neutral the engine simply/abruptly dies.
(Also, might I add that two years ago i eliminated the clutch and side stand switches. It has run for a couple years since then so its safe to eliminate that from any helpful suggestions).
I remember this being an easy fix: ie: loose wire.
Thanx for your help,
Irish}

OK, you've jumpered the clutch & SS switch wires before and it ran OK then but not now?
You might check the wiring bypass job at those locations and make sure there is still continuity between the two wires at each switch site.

If that checks OK, there are diodes in the wiring harness for those ignition interlocks that might have burned out.

Or it could be a loose wire in the harness from either of those switches but not from the neutral switch.: )

Sparky,
Man, it was so nice to get the resident guru to answer my question. Many thanx!
Your guidance helped. I knew it was something simple and indeed it was! The side stand switch did not have continuity.
All fixed and good to go.
Life on the road is sooo sweet!
Thanx again for all your time and help.
Irish
