Author Message   Buellisticx1 Posted on Wednesday, March 19, 2008 - 05:55 pm:        Anyone uses Castrol 20W-50 engine oil non-synthetic on their x1, Any thoughts or ideas?, since I use SYN3 my engine oil consumption has gone up. (Message edited by Blake on March 20, 2008)   Buellisticx1 Posted on Thursday, March 20, 2008 - 06:25 am:        Thanks for the quick response. firstly tell you my 1999 X1 has 42000 miles on it, always I used Castrol 20W-50 engine oil non-synthetic and every oil change it burn 1 quarter only, but I used SYN3 on the last oil change and since then I have added about 1 quarter every 1000 miles. I checked several parts and it seems all is good. I replaced all Engine gaskets 10,000 miles ago and also Valve Guide Seals, Valve Seals) no blue smoke, nor crank shaft oil seal neither overflow the primary vent tube. I think it might to be due to wear rings and cylinder or a bad synthetic engine oil, but my bike run fine and strong What do you think? I've heard and experienced nothing but good things concerning the Syn3, so I'm surprised by your report. It sure wouldn't hurt to switch back to the Castrol 20W50 and see what happens. Let us know. Sloppy and Thanks, In spain or Europe is very hard to find a synthetic oil with specifications Sae 20W50 by Engines air cooled and only we can to find SYN3 at the Dealer and this oil we don't like for Buells, as well as being expensive Castrol Mineral (Multi-Grade) Engine oil V-Twin air cooled I can it easily get here and has the following specs: SAE 20W-50 API SG JASO T 903:2006 - MA . What do you think about this engine oil? There were 2 quarts of Castrol 20W - 50 and 1 quart Mobil-1 20W - 50 at the Auto-Parts store. Both V-Twin. So I put the Castrol in the engine, and the Mobil-1 in the Clutch. Man! The Tranny sure shifts better than it did with Dino-Lube! I'll let you know if the engine uses any oil. It was 1/2" from bottom of stick after 50 mile ride today. 350 mile run on Tuesday coming up. That should be a decent test!
