Check/adjust clutch.

Mikuni provides more abrupt throttle response, but if your bike is stock, the difference is not major.

First thing is to define what your idea of "benefit" means to you and your motorcycle.

Also check adjust transmission/primary lubricant level. A little over-filled can cause shifting trouble.

The engagement dogs may be worn.

But before you tear into the transmission, I'd try adjusting the shift lever downwards a quarter inch or so to provide more leverage when upshifting.

And I'd double check the fluid and clutch adjustment and clutch lever adjustment too.

Lube the clutch cable lately?

yeah, i actually had just installed a muller power clutch and pulled the clutch cable out and cleaned it very well, lubricated it, and changed the fluid to the proper level and re-adjusted the primary and clutch cable, still no change other than now my clutch pull is very light!! muller power clutch definately worth the money! any contacts for gears and such??? thanks again.

Did you have the same problem prior to installation of the muller device?

BK,
How does one adjust the shifter pawl?

Maybe I'm using the wrong name but you use a drill bit to set the gap. Wait let me get my book to get the correct name. Book calls it the shifter shaft assembly calling for a #32 drill bit between the Detent Plate and Pawl. I believe the pawl is what rotates the drum via the pins. It's in section 6 on page 34 of 99-00 S3 Service manual. Hope that clears it up. If I'm wrong please get me straight.
