After my demo ride Saturday, I asked the salesman about the "grille" that surrounds the gas cap on the 2007 Ulysses. He called it the "air intake".

My question is, "air intake" for what? Surely this opening does not lead to the engine's air filter? Too much risk of spilled gasoline, punk vandals pouring in a soda, etc. Not to mention filling the airbox with water in a rainstorm, or at the car wash.

Tell me it isn't true!

best regards,

Marty

Yes Marty, that grill is part of the air intake system. But, it is not the only place for air intake. This also happens all around the cover. Ingestion of fluids into this area is not a real concern. I have ridden through severe down pours, and my Uly kept going by cars that had stopped.
If you have a question at the dealership, talk to a Buell tech, and see if they have a XB series in the shop that you can see the intake routing. It is not a direct line as you are probably imagining.

You can do a search for this type of information and should be able to read more. This is a great board for information.

Carwash?

I must ask is that with you on the bike or do you send it through the rollers by itself?

Over here in the US, we have these things called "self-service car wash". It's sort of like a vending machine with a pressure-wash hose and wand attached - you pull into a stall, insert coins, and the thing runs for a predetermined time while you spray off your vehicle with the wand.

Really, you've never heard of these? Might be a business opportunity over there.
