The symptoms are as follows: -Pops out of neutral when starting up, fortunately before the engine starts. -Depending on its current mood has a random number of "neutrals" between which ever gear it feels like -Pops out of gear especially in the higher gears, primarily when going at a constant rate of travel -When in real neutral, the light does not always stay lit -Pressure required to shift varies, again depending on its current mood. This all started after my engine was rebuilt Initially the transmission was very hard to shift, and would not pop back up on its own. Any ideas? I have a feeling that it is a bit of everything... |

How are the pins on the shift drum? That would be the first place I would look, that and the adjustment of the shifter pawl. You have to pull off the primary for that, but I don't think you have to split the cases. The hard shifting may have caused you to work those pins loose... perhaps it has loosened up now and you can re-stake them with JBWeld or something. |

Well I pulled the primary off, only to discover that everything is in place and nothing is loose... Even stranger is that once I put everything back together the transmission got much better. |

Maybe in the course of going through all that and then getting the primary chain and clutch adjusted, you hit the happy combo and eliminated the problem? Jack |
