Hi all,

I'm getting a very loud "snap" when I travel over a fairly large bump in the road. I originally thought it was in the swing arm, but I've had that all apart and it looks good. I can't really pin point where it's coming from, just somewhere in the immediate engine area. I've been reading things about the front isolator, but I can't get the bike to replicate the noise just by dropping/bouncing it. Any ideas?

Your profile indicates that you have a Blast, so check the front engine mount isolator, top and bottom, and the bracket bolts. I've heard of an instance where the top D-washer on a tuber (M2 maybe) was rotated and hitting the frame, don't know if a Blast can have that happen. How many miles are on the bike? You might also check your steering head bearing adjustment and check the axle bolts and shock mounting points.

I recently replaced the from mount arm...the one that says "do not remove"...well, it decided to "remove" itself and I had to get a new one. The bike has about 8000 miles on it (2004). I know the snap isn't coming from the steering, it's like someone cracks the frame with a hammer if I hit a big enough bump. I've tried picking up the back of the bike and dropping it with someone on it.

Thoroughly wash the bike and get out your fine toothed comb and go over every inch of your chassis and engine mounting and suspension, look at all the welded joints with a magnifying glass, check for cracks or evidence of contact/impact, do the same for each bolted connection on the frame, check for loose or missing fasteners. Then scrutinize the battery restraints, the primary chain and tensioner, look for evidence that your suspension is bottoming out, and yeah, for sure check your kickstand for evidence of a problem there.
