I was riding (2004 XB12s) along and noticed that all the electricals (speedometer, odometer, turn signals, etc) went out. Everything but the headlights. Engine fires up great. Not sure what's going on. Please help!

I checked them and they seem to be okay. But not really sure what I'm lookin for. There were no damages to them so I'm assuming they're fine. I checked the wires around the battery and they seem to be in good shape too. Man, I really don't want to bring it in to the dealership. What else could it be?!

On the fuses, you'd be looking for the metal "arc" inside the plastic part to be broken. Maybe take a peek at the wires behind the flyscreen to see if anything looks funky (rubbing on metal, exposed wire where the insulation has rubbed off, unplugged plugs)?

Okay, so I took the bike in and they replaced the accessory fuse (7.5) and everything was fine. They ran some diagnostics to make sure and everything was normal. Got on the bike and the electricity went out again! So I figured out that whenever I used the left turn signal, the fuse blew. What does that mean?

Most likely it means there is an intermittent short somewhere in the left turn signal wiring from the handlebar switch to the bulb sockets. Your dealer should be made aware of the left turn problem so they can hopefully reproduce the condition and fix it properly.

May also be the switch.

Pull the wires and using a multimeter set to Ohms check to see what reading you get when you switch to turn left.

If you get a 1 its a short in the switch.

I had a very similar problem which turned out to be a wire worn through by the the left rear seat bracket. Whenever I turned left the wire made contact with the metal bracket and caused a short. The brackets come with protective plastic over them, but mine had worn out and fallen off. I taped the wire and the bracket with electrical tape and all was good. If you have a service manual you can use the electrical diagrams to help you track down problems.
