I'm new to Buell but have been riding for lots of miles, on other machines. Couple quick questions; a. Is there a schematic out there/in here of how these engines work and breathe? b. What should I be using for oils in an '01 S3T? (I prefer Amsoil products and am open to Redline stuff as well.) c. Where can I find an online parts fiche? (Looking for the new throttle body boots and injector o-rings for said bike.) | ||

a. - The service manual b. - The party line is the stuff you can buy at H-D dealers. And the service manual spells out the requirements. But many other lubes will work and are being used with no problems. There is tons of discussion about it in the Knowledge Vault. If I had to guess at the one oil that is the most widely used I think it might be Mobil 1W50 in the engine and in the primary/transmission area too. I had an M2 and used Mobil 1W50 and 1W90 in the primary. Some think there is something in the 1W90 that may be associated with alternator failures but I never had a problem with it. I like Amsoil and am using their products (both lubes and filters) in my current ride, a Dyna FXD. c. - No such thing that I know of. But the factory Parts Book is a nice, almost have to have, companion for the factory service manual. The factory service manual and parts book are almost a have-to-have to do your own work and get it right. One do it yourself maintenance cycle will pay for the books at around $100 or so for the pair. Maybe less now. Check with some of the sponsors here, they'll give you a discount in some cases.
