ok so here is the story,
I picked up my buell at detroit harley in january. I moved to florida. I only put like 150 miles on it in michigan. I have put over 2000 in florida. Ihave been having problems with backfire through air intake during accel from dead stop. So I took it in to the dealer. Tech works on it and tells me that the bike was set up for michigan and he had to adjust a sensor to make it run right in florida. They said go ahed and drive it at 60 miles an hour for 3 miles and it should callibrate it self. I must admit as soon as i left the dealership the bike was pulling my arms outta the socket, but the more i drove it the more it started acting like it used to. O yea and my bike is an 08 xb12r. Need sum help guys.!!!!!!!!!!

Fuel Injected motorcycles will self adjust to altitude change, for the most part. The Florida dealer probably reset the AFV and the TPS which would encourage your bike to "learn" the settings it needs for sea level. I'm sure someone else will chime in if I "aint got it right". So what kind of help do you need?

It may be a stretch to say "fuel injected bikes", it's a function of the software. It is, however, an accurate statement with respect to the Buell.

For a learned and detailed summary you'd need to visit with Al Lighton or someone fluent in the unique Buell DDFI systems.

It should not have gone back to running like crap after the reset. I have seen this before, but i can't remember what the root cause is. It has definatly been discussed before.

Edit) Could be something like a bad (or shorted out/intermittent connection) head temp sensor/O2 sensor/Air Intake Temp Sensor or something along those lines... I can't remember which one... Should be a simple fix once you identify the problem and talk to the right guys...

er...I dont wanna say take it to a dealership cause that isnt going to help you. You need someone who actually cares.

I would "interveiw" or go case any new dealership before taking my ride there though. food for thought.

is it the same symptoms? the same noises and all from the intake at the same point in the powerband?

that noise sounds like a cough/snap noise right?

I did think about talking to the tech but i never got the chance. And yes its always the same symptoms, always from idle to 2000 rpms. and yes on the cough/snap noise clutch. Its driving me bonkers!!!

Talk with the Service manager one more time calmly. If it still isn't resolved call Buell customer Service and get them involved. I know that you are not happy with the Dealer, but the goal is to get the R fixed and on the road as quickly as possible with the least amount of effort. If that doesn't work give court a yell but give the system a chance.

hey gearhead, I know there is quite a few Buellers in yipsi, try and hook up with a couple if the dealer provides no solution.

my old sporty did the same thing. the solution on that bike was a carb re-tune/jets, and my problem of being heavy handed on the throttle.

do you have stock exhaust/intake system?


(mine still will cough when cold and I'm being pushy with the throttle. even the Buell)

If the dealer is monitoring BadWeB and they see your rude characterization of their efforts to help you, they may well be inclined to tell you to hit the road.

The dealer will be able to diagnose and resolve your issue. They tried the simplest, easiest and least costly solution first. I'd do the same.
