Bought a set of traction grips, Instructions in package tell me to see shop manual for details, I don't have one yet. I't seems pretty straight forward install. Any pitfalls I should be aware of?
Thank, Dave

Well, the things the manual won't tell you:

1) the stock grips are glued on with the strongest adhesive known to man. The rubber grip and the chrome bar are for all intents and purposes fused as one, and the only way you're getting the clutch side grip off is with razor blades, in little tiny pieces.

2) The grip glue that they provide is messy and tenacious, and will do almost as good a job of ensuring that your grips will never come off except in pieces.

3) Many of us that aren't so concerned with needing to ensure that the only way the grip will never come off in anything but pieces use Hair Spray (Aqua net or generic pump equivalent) instead. My grips haven't come off inadvertently in 30 years of doing this, YMMV.

I always use compressed air. A blow gun with a long tube nozzle is perfect. You can wedge it under the grip, blowing, and work it in the full length and around the bar. The grip usually blows right off in a few seconds. There is a possibility of "ballooning" the grip, it could burst. But then you just go back to the razor blade procedure. I've rarely needed to use any other method than the blow gun.

DAMHIK...

The Buell supplied grip glue does not only stick like stink to grips and bars (as Al observed), it sticks like stink to fingers as well.

(I was peeling that stuff off for a week!)

I've had my traction grips on for almost 2 years without any slipping, and I did not use any glue at all! I think using glue is over rated. I might consider just a dab but I'd never slather it on there like they come from the factory!

i didn't use any glue, and don't have any slipping. The only way to get the old one off (that i know of) as mentioned before is a razor -
Feel 100 times better than the original ones

Thanks guys. I'll be doing this in the back of a toy hauler on the way to Daytona a week from today as well as replaceing front brake pads. My bike is at my brother in laws so I'm trying to be as prepared as possible.
Don't know what I would do without this place. Thanks again, Dave

Update, I won't be able to change the grips until I get to Daytona. Any tips or special special tools to get the throttle side off. My bike is 90 miles away so I can't look at it.
