I have an 05 9SX, and I am 6'2". It fits me better then most bikes (remarkable given how small it is). But riding my KLR-250 has made me appreciate how much more comfortable a little extra leg room can be.

I did a track day on the 9sx, and at the end of the day managed to touch the pegs down once... and that was without leaning my body way out. It was far further then I would *ever* take the bike on the street under uncontrolled circumstances.

So it's got me thinking... I looked at a 9sx right beside a Uly today at my local dealer, and it looks like the lower footpeg bracket assembly of the Uly would bolt right on to the 9sx. The Uly has the passenger pegs built into that bracket, the 9sx has them built into the tail section, but you could just remove the 9sx ones and go with the ones on the Uly bracket.

It looks like it would lower the 9sx pegs about 1-3 inches... hard to tell for sure, and would only be 6 bolts. So if you wanted to switch back and forth for a track day, it would be easy to go back to the high pegs.

The color wouldn't match either, so you would have to paint them.

Anybody try this? I'll have to watch for somebody parting out a Uly and see if I can get a set to test this cheap. Or maybe the factory parts aren't that expensive....

It would make the 9sx a crazy comfortable and flexible touring bike... and still probably give you more then enough cornering clearance for any reasonable sport-touring tire, especially if you know how to lean off the bike.

This has been examined before in relation to the TT. Sorry I don't have the thread link handy. It's infeasible because it would require redoing the brake and shifter among other things. Whether the factory parts are "expensive" depends on how important this mod is to you. One thing it isn't is easy to do and easily reversible. It would be great to have you do it though. There were a few prices in the TT thread.

Bill
What about a thicker seat? Just an option.
