Well I finally got my K&N filter in the mail yesterday and decided to do the open airbox mod at the same time. I cut three holes on the left side and four on the right. Each one is 1.5" wide and span from top to bottom, so the airbox is pretty open now. The only thing I noticed was the additional noise at WOT, which sound BADASS by the way. I still can't pull 2nd gear clutchless wheelies. Do I need to do a TPS reset or something? Any help would be appreciated.

The bike is an 05 XB12Scg with the race ECM and the race muffler. Thanks!

I did not cut any holes in the airbox cover, the plastic piece that says "Buell" on it. I have the carbon fiber one from Buell and I'd rather not cut it up. Could this be the problem? Thanks again!

You won't get any magic power gains from that mod, just mainly (as you observed) happy honking sounds when you whack the throttle.

I had a Dyno run of "before and after". Same day, same dyno, same operator. It picked up maybe 2 HP up top, with about the same curve. I think the top 2 HP were purely a result of the higher redline of the Race ECM. And thats not really a performance gain, thats just trading engine longevity for short term gains.

when i opened my intake tract , plastic holding the filter(KN) and airbox the improvement in performance ( at the time my bike was 1200) was noticeable , nothing stratospheric but noticeable . what you have to do is a ride of 5 / 10 minutes in 5th gear at constant 3000 / 3500 rpm to make the ecm creating a new AFV . probably now you are "lean".
