Now that Buell stopped selling the race exhaust, I'm wondering if anyone ever took one apart and looked to see what is in there? I think the outer shell is the same, I wonder how the guts changed?

The race kit was fairly quiet, which I like, and I wonder if it could be made even quieter with additional baffling...

Don't point me to links to the internals of a drummer, or tell me what is in there. Kevin did a lot of work and is still selling that pipe, if I wanted that I would buy it from him... He's a better welder then I am anyway : ) Same with the special ops pipe.

Actually, now that Buell stopped making it, I have a set of plans for one straight for the source. They were in a manual of a Buell I bought from someone that has something to do with H-D.

+1 on seeing those plans! There's plenty of stock mufflers on Ebay begging to be turned into something better.

I was actually planning on doing something like that. My race can was kinda beat up when I bought it (of a college kid, go figure). I happen to have a stock XB12 exhaust sitting around. I was planning on taking the internals from the race can and putting them in the stock pipe after shortening it. I'll have to do something to get rid of the valve, I have a 9R. A look at what the internals are like before I do any cutting would be a great help. If anyone could post pictures of the internals from a stock exhaust, that would be greatly appreciated, too.

i repacked and lightened the race kit muffler a couple of times , so i know what there is inside: very simple after the turn from the headers there is a 55mm tube with holes from the turn to the rear "jackpot" mark long . holes in that tube starts from the front "jackpot" mark to the rear one (jackpot). the front room before holes starts is useless so i eliminated it . i think the rear room with the 2 gas exit can be modified with a bigger single exit starting from the end of that tube.
in concept race muffler is very similar the jardine one but with a bigger area for phono absorber material.
Raven
race can and stock can looks similar but they are VERY different , so thinking to
swap their internals is a real pain , better if you buy a new one or rebuilt your race one . i remember mine was pretty damaged and i removed all the external wall from front jackpot to rear jackpot i bought a square meter of 0,6mm stainless steel and mig welded it in place of the old wall , doing this i eliminated the front room also to save weight.
bye Alessio
