I have a new Scorpion Sync on the back of my cityX- need a new front, am currently planning to mount up one of these new dual compound tires. I liked the way they performed at full burn on the new Buell, would like the higher mileage possible with this new Corsa III.

Recommendations for/proscriptions against? I tend to change front tires with a significant amount of tread left in the center, having burned off the side carcasses already.

Making the change will eventually allow me to get more mileage overall once I change the rear to the new tire, no?

Thanks for input, y'all.

Brad,

I think a dual-compound tire will just leave you with MORE center tread left after fewer miles. The softer side compound will go away faster than a Sync and the center will wear better than a Sync.

Maybe I have it backwards though.

I'll always run through the side carcass quicker- I'm hoping to get overall better mileage once I change the rear.

I really have no other reason to change- the stock tires are the best I've ever used.

I don't see any way that a dual-compound tire will give you more mileage than a single-compund tire like the Sync. I think it will be a lot less. How are you thinking you would get more?

I run the DCIII's on my Firebolt. The handling is great, fantastic grip, lots of good feedback and easy, quick response to input, but as stated already, the softer compound on the sides will tend to burn off faster then the single compound.

However, I've found that they do give me some good life (compared to say a D208), since I can sometimes get four or even five track days out of a set (depending on the tracks), along with some regular street miles.

I also get mine by the set through a riding club (discount) so cost is not as bad as going through a standard outlet. In two years, I find I go through about three sets in a season (Damn!) however, I've only had the III's on for a little while, previously I was running the II's. The claim from Pirelli guy at VIR was that the III has a better life since it's actually closer to a 3 compound tire and was designed with the track day/street rider in mind. Not a racing tire, but pretty much as close as you can get without going to the really costly rubber.

Dual compound tires add a harder rubber in the center, for longer tread life on the slab. It is still a soft sticky rubber on the sides, so I don't think it's going to help you, it could quite possibly cause your tires to wear worse than a single compound, because you'll have a larger hump of hard rubber in the center.

Despite that, I LOVED the tires on the 1125r at Mid-Ohio.

I've had them on my xb12scg for a month now and I love them.

AWESOME feedback and traction.

Highly recommended

I just installed the Corsa III on my bike and I will not try another brand of tires. I have to travel about 30 plus miles on freeway to get into the mountains and at speeds of 80 plus the Corsa III still heat up and start to leave balls of rubber on the tire. If I had an even softer center I don't believe I could afford to ride as much as I do.

I too installed the III's on my firebolt, all I can say is WoW! what an awesome tire! Out of the box they were sticky enough to be confident. Feel, response, and turn in are all exceptional. I highly recommend these tires. The best price I found as of 4/25/08 was 274 shipped for the pair from denniskirk.com

The only question I have is what air pressure should be ran on these tires?
currently I'm 40 psi front and 38 rear

Deadduck,

I'm using 32psi Front 34 psi rear.

Very good feedback and handling, not too hard on the suspension.

Hope it helps

Just an update. Three months and 3000 miles later, the rear tire is showing cords right in the center and the sides are pretty much toast too. The front is at the wear bars all the way around the carcass. They have been an amazing tires. Yesterday, me and several friends tried to break the bead on the rear tire to get ready for new rubber, and the bead of the rear tire is glued by melted rubber to the wheel. Today it will be a sawzalls job to remove this tire.

I only ran into slipping with the Corsa III's on wet roads, other than that they have been the most confidence building tire I have ever been on. They have been the perfect summer tire.

After trying the Corsa IIIs, I think I like the Syncs better. The Corsas have great dry weather traction for sure.

I mostly commute and horse around a bit ( no track days ). As the weather deteriorates and gets sloppy, I find myself sliding around a lot more with the Corsas, doing all sorts of unintended but fun tail out stuff in tight low speed corners that never would have given me any concern with Syncs.

I thought the Corsas might wear more evenly, which they well may. For what I do, I think I like the Scorpions better.

I got 10K out of my Syncs, I got about 4K on the IIIs so far. Even loaded with gear for work in my backpack I bet I only weigh 150lbs and I'm not a super agro rider. This probably factors into my mileage and perceptions.

As for pressure on the Corsa III, at a track day with my 1125r the guy in the Pirelli trailer suggested 32 rear and 30 front cold at Blackhawk (a fairly small track) Hot they came up to 38 and 36.
