I'm stalling the heated grip kit on the 06 Uly and the 06 Lightning XB12Ss this month. The kit calls to plug into a gray accessory plug behind the fly screen. Found it easily on the Uly but not on the XB12Ss. It's just simply not there.

Was there a variance in the wiring harnesses for the XB's?

Did they put the accessory plugs in different places?

If no accessory plug, where should I take power from for the Grip Kit?

Thank you for any help.

Merry Christmas!

It would probably run fine off the headlight power lead, especially if you don't run both the high beam and low beam simultaneously. One of the concerns with doing that is that if the fuse blows because a grip wire was shorted, that you just lost your headlights.

If you want it more elaborate, you can run a wire direct to the battery with a relay that gets turned on by the accessory line.

I'd probably just run it off the headlight lead and be done with it.

Thanks so much for the recommendation. I did ask the parts counter if the Grip kit would fit the 06 XB12Ss. The said they didn't see why not. I just read the box (after drilling the bars and installing the grips) and now see that it is for the the 08 XB's and the 06 to 08 Uly. So My bad on expecting this to work for the bike.
There is no draw information in the kit so I don't know how much it draws. When I put them on the ULY yesterday, I did start it up and turn the grips on at idle and the lights didn't dim and the grips took a while to get warm. So they probably don't draw a heck of a lot.

So I'll try it on the head lights and bring an extra fuse.
Thanks
Bear

I'd guess they are around 15 watts combined. Watts = Volts times Amps, so thats a little over one "new" amp.

Assume the headlights are 50 watts each, running them both together (which they don't by default) is 100 watts. Theres another 9 amps or so. Add them up and you are running about 10 amps through a 15 amp fuse (I am guessing that is a 15 amp fuse on the headlight). Getting up there, but probably still in the "fine" category, and thats assuming you run both lights simultaneously.

I looked up the wire guage power ratings on a couple other threads, they are fine as well. Those wires are probably good for more then twice the biggest fuse in the system.

Wow thanks Bill for looking all that up.
I picked up the power for these Heated Grips just before the connector for the head lights near the front of the fly screen area.

It's amazing how hot these grips get for one amp. Of course it isn't instant heat and must heat up the metal in the bars to become really warm. But they certainly get up the the "warm enough" temperature for 28 degrees anyway and have to turn them off for periods.
