hi. I have 99 S3 with a shifter that needs repairs, and I don't know what part numbers I need. As usual, my parts manual shows a different shift mechanism from what I have on the bike. I did manage to find the correct picture in one of the recall bulletins, but no part #s. In the picture, parts 4 and 5 are messed up and I want to replace them. Also, the big spacer that the shift lever bolts onto (part 3) is missing. Anyone know these part numbers? Thanks for your help  | ||

John I believe that the S3 shifter cam from the newer M2s, say 00 on. The X1 shifter is what I put on my S1 and it was different than the shifter Buell provided for the S3 (updated). If I can remember I will try and find the installation sheet for the shifter, it should have the part numbers. Also the parts your are looking for should be in the 00 or newer X1 parts book. I believe that the shifter pivot bushing and shaft arm are the same for both. Joe | ||

Joe is correct. The S3 shifter is the same as the 2001 M2 shifter. The X1 is the same except it has a longer shifter arm (part 3 in the above picture). The X1 had to be longer due to the higher and farther back footpeg location. There is a complete kit available with all the parts, sorry, I don't have the part number. Brad | ||

thanks for the individual part numbers. If it falls off again, i will be able to just order the missing pieces. I hope my jury rigged shifter holds up until the new parts arrive. this time I'll use LockTite | ||

On these paint shakers, you have to use Loctite Blue on damn near everything! | ||

John I like this style of shifter better than the old style. With that said the old style does survive crashes well. I have no experience with the newer style and crash survival. But I suspect that they will not survive as well and will transfer more impact to the engine cases than the older style. joe |
