I have to start with a little background. I bought my 2006 XB12SS at the end of June last year. In August of 2006, the compensator nut backed off and was making that terrible noise. I took the bike back to the dealership, which after around 30 days and numerous calls to them and Buell, they decided that they would repair it. A total of 2-months later I got my bike back, after they had split the case and rebuilt the lower half of the engine. Bike ran like a raped ape! Latley, I have noticed oil/carbon buildup, just below the front cylinder head. I initially thought that this was from road grime but after a cleaning, it came back during fair weather riding, and also I notice that it burns a little more oil than it did before the bottom end was rebuilt. The bike is still under warranty. How could I ensure that I have a leaking head gasket? Would I notice a change in compression? The bike runs very well still, but I think that if I continue to ride it, I am going to regret it later. What should I do?} | ||

Steve Make sure that it isn't the valve box gaskets leaking. Joe | ||

As Pammy said in another posting it's under warrantee (Take it back). At least it's documented | ||

Thanks guys for the responses. Joe, the front valve box is leaking as well. I just do not see how this much could be coming from there and how it gets all over the very front of the engine will riding at speed. Since is just started snowing here in SLC, I am going to take it back to the dealership on the next sunny day and see what they come up with. Its too cold to ride every day out here so I will not miss it(MUCH). Steve.} | ||

I appear to have the same problem, I have 32K on my bike. I originally thought I had a leak at the base of the rear cylinder as viewed from primary side. I now find that as you show in the photos that the front tube of the rear cylinder has a leak. Was the leak at the tube the culprit? Confirm if just replacing seal and o-rings solved the problem. Any recommendations or advice/shortcuts to make easier. Thanks |
