I am having an electrical problem on my '04 XB12R. All of the electronics cut out, which kills the bike, resets the clock and trip odometer, etc. This usually happens when I am starting the bike, especially for the first time of the day, but it has happened when I am riding it. It will cut out for a second or two and then either restart (if I am rolling) or continue the starting process (if I am just starting it). BTW, it has the Buell Race Kit installed. Anyone out there have any ideas? The local Buell shop could find nothing wrong. Thanks.

If all the electronics goes away, even momentarily, I would start looking real close at the battery and it's cable connections. You could have a marginal or defective battery (intermittent open circuit), a bad ground connection from the battery to the bike frame or both. Also, there is a 30 amp main fuse that everything goes through. You need to look at that fuse and its wiring.

What were the last few things done to it in its service history and when was the first time you noticed this happening? Usually starting problems with instruments resetting is due to a marginal battery or, in some cases, loose battery cable connections.

Let us know what you find.

if EVERYTHING dies, look for an issue in the red wires coming from the ignition switch. There was a break in that wire on my XB9S (INSIDE THE insulation, tough to find) that would cause that.

But at least one of the three relays in the left side "fuse box" can do the same thing. They're identical, so swap them around and see if the problem moves from the whole bike to just the starter circuit.
