Today was the day to put my race intake on my M2. Did not go as smooth as planned. First off, I barely screwed in the 90 degree breather bolts before they started hitting the frame and support bracket. The "jam nuts" were almost impossible to tighten, could not get a good angle on them. I followed the included instructions, and when I cut the breather hoses per their spec, they would not even reach the T-junction together. And I could not get the breather hose to go through the backplate. I ended up just sticking the t-juntion barb into the backplate. Not to mention the venturi ring assembly did not tighten down very easily. I realize a lot of my issues would probably go away if I routed to a catch can. My question is, if I do that, would I have to seal up that rear hole in back plate? If so, how? Pretty bummed out how it went today and I'm concerned about the integrity of the install. | ||

Don't fret. There should be an aluminum spacer between the carb and backing plate, make sure you have one. When I installed the CF race filter, the screws that came with the kit were too long. One of them had to be trimmed because it bottomed out before the venturi ring could be seated. I closed off the hole in the backing plate with a hole-closer-out... I can't think of a better way to describe it. You get them at hardware stores and all they do is close holes. They are in the fastener section, but you can use anything to seal the hole. Just make sure you install it from the outside so it doesn't get sucked in the carb. Can't help you with the breather hoses... I never tried to connect them to the race filter because I already had a catch-can. | ||

Well, seeing as how I was having such difficulty routing the breathe hoses according to the "directions", I opted for a modification of Mikef5000's set-up minus the catch can. This way, when I decide to add a catch can (soon) it will involve a minimum of hose trickery. Thanks very much to Mikef5000 for the additional off-board assistance. BTW, I must be crazy, but it appears that since I've installed the intake, the bike appears to be about 5 mph faster than it was at the same revs with the stock intake. I did not do a before and after dyno, but that gain cannot possibly be correct, can it? At right around 6 ft I was concerned about knee clearance, has not been a issue though. | ||

My bike is faster after I wash it and when the stock market is up. It's really, really fast when both things happen the same day. How it's fooling your tach and speedo... now that's a trick! | ||
