I know that there is a Garmin GPS available for Buells as an accessory from the Buell website. I have a H/D unit from a bike that's been sold, and I'd like to use it on my Uly. Does anyone have any experience with finding or adapting a bracket to fit the Uly? Thanks in advance, free bird | ||

That would probably be either the H-D branded StreetPilot 2610 or the Quest I (maybe the Quest II). See if you can spot it in the current models: https://buy.garmin.com/shop/shop.do?cID=135 or the discontinued models: https://buy.garmin.com/shop/shop.do?cID=164 Once you figure out which model you have you can use the RAM Mount wizard to see the available mounts: http://www.ram-mount.com/products/motorcycles.htm Either way, the best solution for mounts is a RAM Mount. You can get one that will clamp onto the bars or one that will replace one of the clamping brackets on the clutch and/or throttle housings. Or you can go through the catalogs and spot that bits and pieces that will let you tailor a mount to your exact needs and situation. The RAM mounts are simply wonderful, there is no better way to describe them. I use either a StreetPilot 2610 or GPSMAP 76Cx on my FXD and it is a quick and simple matter to change from one to the other. Jack | ||

I have the Buell Quest GPS system on my 06 Uly. You can go to the Garmin site and look at the M/C mount and, if I remember right, it contains the bracket, mount, and bare end wiring for splicing, @ $70. The only drawback I have is, not that you are suppose to while riding, making adjustments to the screen. Isn't that a $200 locking mount for a $150 GPS? Better get a lock for the lock  I was trying to think of cheap ways to lock mine to the bike as well. I picked up a second Quest on Ebay (scratched screen broken antenna, but worked great with external antenna) and was considering just leaving it on the bike. But whatever I think of would only stand up to a light attack say under 5 minutes with no custom tools. Nothing would stand up to the "hotel parking lot over night or airport over the weekend" scenario. So I just keep snapping mine off and carrying it back in with me in the riding jacket... |
