Wman,
Gotcha. I can see how that might lead to cracking if the fasteners were overtight.

I read several months ago on BWB that ASB was developing a tail section for M2 having a similar look as the S1 tail. Anybody having more info about it ? Prototype pictures ?

Thanks in advance.

It doesn't supprise me that I have the only M-2 that cracked the tail. It cracked before I even had a chance to over-tighten it my self. I thoght it was a more comon problem, must just be that black cloud I lease.
S-1 tail on M-2! I want one.

Az_M2,
Did that bike ever go down? I'm seeing a structural failure that indicates such an incident, not cracking around the fasteners. Is there room for the seat footings to rest entirely on the steel tube subframe? Be careful, the duct tape may exacerbate an already weak tail section's problems.

I thought my cracks around the mounting bolts were bad. I agree with Blake, what happened?

The bike has never been down. It slowly broke apart over the course of several months. Started with small cracks (don't remember exactly where they started). I posted a pic previously when it was better than this, I'll see if I can find it. Duct tape is there because both sides are cracked, the right side is cracked all the way through. Dealer would not fix this under the extended warranty. I did not call Buell customer service.

My fiberglass S1 tail has some cracking around the mounting screws and just under the rear of the seat...I think most of it is due to carrying passengers, though. If a lot of it starts to show I'll re-do it in chrome paint

The bodywork on my 2000 M2 is cracked in the same place as everyone elses. I was at San Diego Harley the other day and they said to get a new rear assembly would cost $199.00. No thanks, at least not yet anyway. I repair alot of surfboards and I am going to see if I can mend the cracks with fiberglass first.

OK Here's the Nuclear Blue Question again, Is there any paint processes that will reproduce it?
If not, I need to find a tube frame, aluminum chin spoiler.

I have a question about cleaning carbon fiber. What is best to use to clean it. Everything that I try looks good for about 15 minutes then it gets a white film all over it. Thanks for any help.

Kahuna the solo seat bolts right up but you will need to buy the taillight assembly for the solo tail because if memory serves they are a little different but you are talking $40.00.The carbon tail is #59810-96Y that retails for $197.00 and I don't know if you can even get that any longer, good luck.

Does Buell offer touch up paint? I've got a scratch on the front edge of my hard bag and need to paint it. The bike is Carbon Black.

You could get touch up paint while the tube frame bikes were still in production. It came in two bottles, one with the base coat and the other clear coat. I don't know if you can still get it or not. (Sponsors?)

Any idea how I can cut a perfect circle out of a piece of Carbon Fiber I have left over from my old fender. The piece is about 3/32 inch thick and is just a bit bigger than the circle I need to cut. It is the license plate portion of my old S1 mega-rear fender. I am trying to make a cover to screw/stick onto the front pulley.

S1Joel,
Make a pattern from a piece of 3/4" thick or better wood (a lathe is good at making perfect circles). Clamp CF to wood pattern. Use a router to trim the edges. :) Wear a dust mask and gloves and long sleeves...

I don't know what is the correct forum for my question, so please direct me appropriately. I had a sticker on my bike that was starting to crack, fade, etc., basically a 2 1/2" smiley face similar to this with fangs and cross bones behind it. While at the ROT rally this weekend I had a guy qoute me a price on it. I saw some of his work in progress and a few samples. Deal was made and the flyscreen and sticker provided, with a stated two hour turn around. It ended up not being ready until the next day, and the results were very displeasing. The image bore a resemblance to the sticker, but with glaring differences, mainly the smile was all zigzaged(sp) and crooked. Instead of looking menacing, it looked like the smiley had taken a bat to the teeth. The guy said he couldn't redo it without sanding through the stock paint and that he didn't have a color to match Reactor Yellow. Also, there was only two hours left to clear the rally grounds. So now I am stuck with an image on my bike that I don't like. It wouldn't be so bad except I was specific about certain things that he didn't pay attention to. SO, anyone have any ideas on how I can fix it without totally stripping it down or trusting someone else and getting taken again? If the smile could be redone, I think it would be okay. As always , your tips and suggestions are greatly appreciated.

Thanks,
Sid

Mikej
The airbrush work was done on the flyscreen of a 99 X1, stock (painted) Reactor Yellow. There are some differences in the artwork, that I expected. The smile is not even close and really takes away from the effect of the image. I am not sure what type of paint he used, but he said he couldn't mix it to match the stock yellow. I may be able to find out. If anyone knows of someone they could recommend, or if just the smile can be repainted, please let me know .
Thanks again,
Sid

Sid,
There is a lot that can be done by a good airbrush artist, and occaisionally you'll find a good to okay artist at some bike events. Your best bet would be to ask around at local bike and hot-rod shops for recommendations of detailers near you. The fact that you are only talking about the flyscreen that can be carried into a studio or paint shop is to your benefit. I've also seen some good scale model hobbyists who do excellent work as well.

If you have a good Buell dealership near you they should be able to get you either the correct paint or at least the correct paint codes. Their is also a list of paint codes at the top of this page.

Hope this helps in some way. If you post where in the world you live there might be a local person on the site who can direct you better.

Slasher,
I think I saw recently where someone simply enlarged the stock petcock passage with good results. Another solution is to add a slight pressure to the fuel tank. How? You'll have to ask Aaron Wilson about that. ;)

Others have used a product from a company called "Pingel." Not sure if the Pingel part requires any modifications or not. Since it is a replacement for the stock part I'd think not.

Pingle petcocks require no mods, but are not cheap (just over $100 for trhe petcock and adaptor, if memory serves), but are extremely high-quality units . . . . .

The pingle doesn't require any mods, but I wouldn't call it a bolt-on. ABS isn't as easy to file as the directions make it seem. If you can get pass the $$$ I highly recomend it.

OK, it's on the road.

greg

That's Greg, my crash test dummy. He came over to the garage to help me enjoy my hangover and let me work on his Road King. What a guy.

I just glued the stock seat cover back on,it looks like cr*p, but I thought I'd run it for a while and make sure nothing breaks before I invest in a professional upholstery job. So far so good!

Anyone know how much it would cost to have the tube frame from an M2 removed and painted. I am asking because my bike is your standard black on black, and I love the Buells I see where the frame is a different color.

I would have to say your cheapest way would be to take it apart yourself and have it painted a color you desire or take a look at www.classiccoatings.com they are the company that doe's all the powder coating for BMC.I wouldn't be surprised if you were in the neighborhood of $400.00 though.Check them out.

Perhaps you should accompany Madame Bomber when she comes south this summer. The welcome mat is out...
