this weekend i put my bike down in the canyons. it was at low speed and i didn't slide much. everything that got hit was pretty minor and i can either repair it myself or just leave slightly scratched. but the frame on the right side took a good hit. i have put up a pic but it doesn't do it justice. it is a wicked dent.

i don't know where to go from here. if i claim this do you guys think they will total it? it is a 06 9r with 6k on it. if i decide to fix it myself what are my option with cleaning up the big dent? i don't think i want to take a hit on my insurance, but might if its totaled. it still runs but my bars are bent and my plastics are scratched. there are also small scratches throughout the right side. the "front faring aluminum brace thing" is also broken. if y someone could point me in the right direction it would be very helpful.

oh, by the way i didn't get hurt at all really. got a not on my knee and some cactus in my glove.

I don't claim to be an adjuster, but since you are looking for advice, just do your best to fill/patch/paint the dent for cosmetic purposes and finish by re-installing the factory frame pucks providing the damage is cosmetic only. If it's leaking however or if the forks are tweaked, then go for submitting a claim and take the hit.

Buell has the frame spray paint, the pucks, the fairing support (which is magnesium & probably pricey) and the other tip-over parts for a DIY project.

I tell everyone who buys an XB to get frame pucks and axle sliders before doing anything else. Usually if the forks, swingarm, frame and/or engine case are damaged it could be totaled...depends on your insurance carrier.

The advice you got above is pretty good and probably what I'd do. With what I'd pay in a raised premium and the deductible I'd only claim a completely totaled ride.

I made the mistake in having the wife claim some minor damage ($1800) to her new car and I really regret it.

Yeah i have pucks and sliders. The sliders defiantly saved alot of damaged, by far the best money i have spent. forks and swing arm look good so i think i am going to repair it my self. the repair is going to be easy but i just wanted to get a second opinion.
