Looking to buy a 2000 X1 or 2002 M2. Both have under 5000 miles. prices around 5000. Like to do my own wrenching so I prefer simple ie carb vs injection unless the X1 is really that much better. Don,t need the fastest bike would rather have better handling and more comfortable ride. No track racing seen in my future, just want to give my Indian Chief a break when I go solo. All riding done in Illinois area so twisty turnees are few and far between. Thanks for your help. old guy | ||

I cant comment on the X1 but I do have a 2002 M2L. I'm an old guy too(52) and the "fun to ride" factor on my M2 is way up there. Goes like stink, sticks to the road like a booger on your finger.....I'm sure either one will give you a good time.... | ||

Thanks for the comment Igneriod. That pretty well matches up with everything I have read about the M2. I guess the fuel injection intrigues me along with the upside down front forks on the X1. Not sure if the is much else different between the two chassis. Also if something goes bad on the EFI does it have to go back to the dealer because you need a computer link to diagnose and repair it? Don't want to get in over my head on high tech for maintenance purposes. Hoping to hear from a X1 owner. By the way I weigh in at 2oolbs and stand at 5'11''. I hear the newer bikes have smaller frames and the older Tube frame, ie 2002 and earlier, bikes offer a little more room to stretch out on. thanks Oldguy | ||

Get the M2. Every one of the reasons you mentioned that drew you to it are valid. The M2 also has a little more rake and trail than the X1. Neither bike is unstable, but the M2 is a little less nervous than the more aggressive X1. | ||

Carburetors rule!  If you ever want to work on the engine, the carburetor sure seems a lot simpler to me than all the EFI ganglia. | ||

}HI, I have the xiw and love it , but i don't ride on the back. the ddfi is great buy a box and you done . no choking or flooding and you can check the computer with a jumper wire. just buy a service manual and you have everything you need to fix anything. I've lost head gaskets, head temp senor,and air temp senor and fix them all my self w/manual. good luck . don't get stuck in the dark ages witha carb!!!}}}}} | ||

Thanks for everyones comments so far.Thought I would go with the 2002 M2 with 4500 miles for $5000. Then up pops a 2000 X1 limited edition (red with the white stripe) with 10,000 miles for a grand less. Bike looks like new but owner (original) claims he never received any recall notices. Appears to me that the rear shock and possibly front fork had recall issues. Local buell dealership not real cooperative. Says they cannot honor recall any longer. Bike is stock otherwise, does not appear to have been ridden hard just a weekend rider . What is lifespan of that motor before a rebuild would need to be considered given a mildly aggressive riding style?(After all thats why Erik built them) Any info would be appreciated as I need to decide before someone else buys one of these and decides for me. How can you not honor a recall??? I don't think that is legal. Call Buell CS or try another Buell-friendly dealer. Get the bike you want! --Sean | ||

I've never owned an X1 so anything I *know* about them would be second-hand knowledge. If I were spending my money, again, I'd get the '02 M2. They're sorted and there's very little (I can think of none) mystery left in them. Thousands of miles and smiles in that unit. Also, it's the world's most perfect motorcycle. | ||

Hoping to close deal on 2002 M2 this weekend. Found a Buell dealer that seems to be actually interested in customer service,he said all recalls will be honored, just bring the bike in and he would update whatever is required. Good to know there are people to bounce things off. Thanks for your help and will be chatting with you guys once I get the bike and put some miles om it. oldguy |
