Hey Brian, have you tried to just take the decal off yet? Play it by ear, with some time, patients, and possibly a heat gun (hair dryer will work too) you can work it off. If your planning on repainting the tank anyways, you don't have to be overly careful with removing the decal. It just depends on how comfortable you are with body work.

I HAVE A 96 S1 AND HAVE HAD A LOT OF TROUBLE WITH THE PAINT BUBBLING ON THE GAS TANK. I CALLED BUELL AND GOT LITTLE HELP, THEY DENIED KNOWING OF ANY SUCH PROBLEM. I HAD THE TANK REPAINTED PROFESSIONALLY AND THE SAME PROBLEM HAPPENED ABOUT A YEAR LATER.

ANYONE ELSE EXPERIENCE THIS PROBLEM AND IS THERE A CURE?

There is sort of a cure, but first please turn off your caps lock.

Then do a search on the site here in the knowledge vault for paint bubbling.

At one time there was something like a good will exchange, and then later I believe there was a dealership assisted exchange with a little cash involved. Now you're pretty much on your own. Your professional paint shop should have been aware of what is needed to properly paint one of the paint bubbling gas tanks, or should have at least looked into the issue.

And, yes, there have been quite a few with this issue.
