I understand that the tuber injectors were the same as a car's. I have tried to search the KV and couldn't find the info. Does anyone know what the match is?

Since my '99 S3 has been down for about a month (mostly my fault due to being busy) I would like to get it going and don't want to wait another week for the shop to get one in.

What do you need? I,m switching to a carb.
To many computer problems to contend with. I have a 1999 S3.

Thanks for the offer. I thought that I had it tonight. I pulled the injectors, activating them with a 1/2 amp charger that has small clip leads. I then sprayed carb cleaner through them. At first the suspect one didn't spray until I back flushed it.
After reinstallation the bike seemed to run ok but when I took it out on the road it was the same old thing again.
I think I'll scope the injector feed and make sure it is getting good pulses. If it is I think I'll just buy new ones.

Good luck to you. i just went thru a night mare with mine. I don't no if you saw any of my posts. Bike started running crappy after about 30 miles then quit. You could get it started and limp it home. I'm an auto mechanic by trade so fuel injection is something i deal with on a daily basis. but not being able to see what was happing via a data stream i wasn't sure. so one month at the dealer and a couple of hundred dollars later now the bike won't even run. I know whats wrong the injector pulse is so short it wont allow enough fuel to run. I.E. the computer is either getting wrong info or the programming is screwed up. I'm sure its the latter on account it ran when i took it in and now it wont even start. So its carb time. Good luck to you.

I'm guessing that my problem is something simple, I just haven't found it yet. So far I haven't spent any money that I wouldn't have anyway.
I prefer to find the problem than to just start changing things, I'm cheap too. Luckily I have another bike to ride while this one is incapacitated. Unfortunately I ran across a real good deal on another bike that I have always wanted. The S3 would have to go if I bought that one.

Mike, I was told by a Buell tech from Santa Cruz Buell long ago that he found the injectors to be from a Ford 4 cyl--like a Focus/Escort etc and had upgraded his S-3 when he did a bunch of hotrodding to it with some injectors from a bigger Ford. The part #'s on an X-1 injector I looked at sure resembled the Ford parts #'s I have seen before.Unfortunately he has since moved from the area.

Well it looks like it's the injector that's bad. I swapped them front to rear and now the rear isn't running.
I think I'll just buy new ones. Heck, I've got 62,000mi. on the bike, it could use some new stuff once in awhile.
I'll post next week if that for sure was the fix.
I did find that the front injector wire cover had worn through but it hadn't worn into the wires yet. It is routed under the top stabilizer mount and rubs on the bolt.

Mike don't mess with this too long. Keep an eye on your plugs for splatter of detonation. Most likely the rear cylinder.

Well it was the injector after all. I went ahead and replaced both for $66/ea.

It's nice to have it running again.

It is just amazing: I purchased my '99 S3 new from a one Buell dealer in Cedar Rapids. I immediately complained about the rough running and they did an ECM update that helped a little.
I then changed my muffler, intake and installed a race ECM. I went back to that dealer and asked for a TPS zero and was told "That isn't necessary". I protested telling them that the manual says to do it but they wouldn't. They aren't a Buell dealer anymore.
I then started having the Waukon shop do some of the recall maintenance because I could bring the bike in and they would work on it while I waited. I requested a TPS zero and was told "It isn't necessary". (Do you see a pattern here? BTW, they aren't a Buell dealer anymore either.
Well Waterloo became a Buell dealer so I started having them do the shock recall work and also asked them to do a TPS reset. They told me "It isn't necessary", even though I told them I wanted it done, none of them ever did.
At 3 yrs. and 30,000mi. I decided to replace my intake seals and found the boot was missing off of the throttle body evap port. That made a huge difference in how it ran, especially when cold.
Yesterday at 8 yrs. and 62,000mi. I had to run all the way to Minneapolis and have BluzM2 using Naustin's software (thanks Nick, your payment will be delivered next time I can stop by Albert Lea), zero my TPS. Guess what, It runs the way at low rpms that I have been asking for since I bought it 8 years ago.
What really gripes me is that every mechanic that worked on it or changed tires rode it and did nothing to resolve my problem. Is there any wonder why my Buell will never see a dealer shop while I own it?

I forgot to mention that several mechanics or service writers said "That's the way they all run". Maybe if they would have spent the effort to make them run right, they may have sold more bikes.
I rode a '00 S3T that the Waterloo shop had as a demo. It ran worse than mine and I couldn't believe that they would let it out that way.
I do have to admit that at one of the first Homecomings that I went to the factory was taking our bikes in and giving them a thorough going over. I passed because I wanted to get some riding in. Boy was that ever a big mistake. I would have enjoyed my bike that much more if they would have set it up right.

Wow, that story really sucks. The one thing I want to mention is that over the next few years I would expect the situation to improve on account of ALL new Harleys now are fuel injected, so some of these mechanics who didn't want to have to learn about fuel injection will be forced to learn or get out of the trade. This should have a 'trickle-down' effect of servicing Buell fuel-injection too, is what I would expect.

I was telling a Harley riding co-worker about it yesterday and he said that when he bought one of the early injected Harleys, he had the same problem. Kept going back to the shop and they couldn't fix it.

He finally took it to a non-Harley shop and that guy fixed it in 15 minutes. My guess was that he zeroed the TPS.

What really griped me was that I kept telling them what I wanted done and they wouldn't do it. As a service technician I don't have the attitude that I know more than my customers. I have seen too many guys get embarrassed by blowing off a customer's comment on the problem.

Note to all who are using the software and cable for VSTS (?), make sure the kill switch is in the run position!
We lost a lot of time due to the csoftware not being able to communicate with the ECM.
The kill switch must be in the run position!!

It's a good thing that you had a good tech looking over your shoulder! At my shop the programmers would have blamed the hardware and we would have blamed the programmers.

Now the urge to sell it has gone away.
