Okay, so I've got this older 'tuber gas tank that had the bubbled decals and tank logo on it but now I'm trying to get the remaining residue off. Goo-Gone isn't cutting it, so apart from the cutting torch I'm open to tip, hints, suggestions to get the gunk off. | ||

3M adhesive remover. Comes in a red and white can. I've used it to remove stripes and stickers from cars for the past 20 years. If autozone doesn't have it your local auto paint supply should. | ||

Thanks, I'll see if I can find some locally. Years ago I used M.E.K. to remove contact cement from machine tools in a machine shop I helped at, nasty stuff, was hoping to avoid going that route. | ||

did nothing except get the rag wet, I'll try again though as maybe the heat and humidity in the garage affected it's effectiveness. | ||

Goof Off Just be careful since it could possibly start to melt the plastic as well.. The stuff will clean just about anything off, but it's pretty strong so be advised. | ||

Goof Off didn't work either. Maybe I didn't leave it on long enough or didn't spray enough of it on. I'll be attacking the tank again this weekend. (The belt sander is nearby if I get overly tempted/frustrated.) | ||

Try a blow dryer. once it gets a little warm it comes right off. I removed my Buell decals using a regular hair dryer just don't let it get to hot. Took me about 15-20 mins to get all the residue off and preped for the new decals. | ||

You might try Goo Gone. Available at wally world. It's an orange based solvent and not quite as harsh as others.... | ||

I have used easyoff oven cleaner to remove lettering off of semi doors and it didnt harm the paint,dont know plastic. | ||

Orange Goo citrus hand cleaner....works for me. The citrus will take the light off the sun. | ||

how about off city cross plastics, particularly the hard residue from the X on the air box | ||

sometimes if you get some of the same sticky residue or something else with high "tack" you can use this to actually pull at and rub/roll away. Prepare for very sore fingers. Good luck. | ||

This might sound stupid but I took my decals off last night and I used crisco and a cloth. They came right off. | ||

I removed my decals and since I could not get the residue off, painted the darn thing Flat Black! Residue gone! Just kidding...It is flat black now but before that, I did use WD40 to remove the residue and it worked like a charm! |
