How long will one last? I'm coming up on 34,000 miles and have no problems so far. I've got one ready to go if I need it. The bike shifts just fine. The primary chain has no tight spots that I found and the chain is in spec. I guess I want to know if it's time to pull the cover and have a look.

If you have the newer unit with the thicker spring just watch the shoe wear. If you have the older style change it now.

I don't know what kind of polymer the H-D and Buell primary drive chain tensioners are but it's tough. I had over 100000 miles on my FXR's tensioner when I changed it and it still had some miles left. It had a noticable groove in it but I could have still run it.

It's the newer tensioner. I guess I'll just continue checking for wear.
