Can anyone tell me what Buell did to lighten the pull on the clutch lever beginning with the '06(I think) model? My riding buddy wants to lighten up the pull on his '03 Lightning. |

They changed the spring in '06 works pretty good . Put one in my 05 12r after getting stuck in traffic too many times. PN# 37934-06 retails about $26 |

One thing that can be done for the clutch pull effort is to keep the cable friction down to a minimum. This entails applying pressure lube to the end of the cable at the lever end. But be advised that if there is dirt/gunk inside the cable, this stuff might be pressure fed into the primary at the clutch end. So what I did was to carefully unthread the cable from the primary housing and proceed to flush out the gunk until clear lube came out. Then, upon reassembling the cable, the lever effort was fairly light again, like new. For different levers, try looking over the offerings at American Sport Bike and give Al or Joanne a call to see what they recommend. |

I too have small hands and ride an XB12S. My grip, while strong for a female can barely tolerate the clutch for long in traffic. Is there anything, lever or adjustment I/my service guy Ryan can do to at least shorten the distance between the grip and clutch lever? Any ideas? Help? |

I did as advised by Sparky, cleaned out the gunk and basically re lubed the lever...I was told by someone that they don't really lube them much from the factory...Needless to say once cleaned and re-lubed there was a world of difference in lever tension...I looked into changing them out but any after market levers are a bit spendy... |

Thanks Hepburnhoney! I'll start there. I fix that I can identify with, cheap and easy. I'll let you know how it went. |

I put the easy pull thing from Trojan (sponsor on this site, I think they are "Dark Horse") in my Uly (arthritis in the saddle joint at thumb) and it sure made a difference. I let my faince try it and she liked it so much she had me put one in her Scg. It is a simple, simple, simple mod and you will notice a big difference. Takes mabe 5 minutes max the second time, about 1/2 hour the first time just to make sure it is being done properly. Also keep the cable clean and lubed. |

I have to say I love my CRG levers -- brought the controls closer and the two-finger ergo is nice but I think modding the pull to make it lighter would make it perfection so I am going to try this re-lube of the cable -- mine has always seemed tight since I bought it. I don't know if I can justify the money for that Muller power clutch -- I'd do the catch can mod first. It is cool that my 12R can use '99-2003 R1 levers though, in case I ever need to replace them. |
