So I used to have a Race Exhaust and I took it off because I hated the powerband and the sharp crack killed my ears on the highway. I went back to stock about 3000 miles ago, but I am not a fan of the marbles in a sewing machine sound, although I can ride it without any issues. I have always liked the Drummer sound and if I am going to plunge in to exhaust again, I was thinking about trying the Drummer.

Obviously I have read the shootout, but how loud is the Drummer in real world riding, 3-4K, easy to moderate throttle, around town (ie, if I am behaving, will I get pulled over for noise or piss off my neighbors if I come home at night)?

Is it loud enough to attract the attention of the police?

On the freeway, do you need to wear earplugs?

Thank guys,

--Sean

You did not say what type of bike. I have a 2000 M2 and changed from stock to a V&H that gives it a nice low rumble with out being to loud. I don't have a tach and could not hear the engine on the highway. I did not seem to need to rejet it. I know this does not answer your ques. but at least gives another option. And got it on Ebay for a reasonable price and have seen others here for the same and maybe cheaper.

Sean,
Probably not loud enough to attract the police if you're nursing it, but if you're getting on it, Huntington Beach po-po would still be giving you the stink eye. A drummer isn't especially quiet, similar in volume to the race pipe, but a bit less wiffy sounding and a bit deeper/thumpier.

If you ask me, earplugs are necessary on the highway regardless of the muffler. My micron bugs me far less than the wind volume if I get on the freeway without my plugs in.

I agree Al, I always wear 'em because my Shoei is especially loud at speed. Wish the helmets were quieter. The reason I asked about ear plugs is that seems to be easier for people to give a clearer answer on volume over the internet.

Thanks for the input, I never get on it around town, rarely above 3500 and never WOT. I reserve that for the twisties. : )

What I really wanted was the two chamber Quiet Drummer (I love the Drummer sound and performance testimonials) and people seemed to indicate that its volume was on par with the Race Pipe volume (which I never had any real problems with the Po Po while I was running it), but Kevin says he doesn't make them any more because there is extra labor and steps involved. I e-mailed him back and said I would pay him extra for one, but haven't heard back and it sounds like it is just too much work for him to do with his new production line and all the normal work coming in.

I just want a good sounding exhaust that is somewhere between stock and the race kit. With all of the laws cracking down on us, there has got to be a solution to a performance exhaust that isn't objectionable.

Maybe someone on the Big Bear ride will have a Drummer on thier bike and I can hear it in person or I can hear it at the BBQ and see if it is too loud.

I guess I can live with the sewing machine if I have to.

Hi , I have installed a QUAT-D exhaust (the new model not the one on the internet, with the BUell race ECM and KN filter), the sound is really good and it is Euro 3 compliant (I think EPA requirements are more or less the same). The guys that dis the work it told me that I could gain 8-12 HP

Hi this is link to the old model, they have on the web. The one I bought came to the market in july. The local HD-Buell dealer in Madrid is their agent in Spain. The new model is really well build. It also has two parallel pipes but with parts in titanium and ergal. I will post pics once I have it installed. (hopefully tomorrow)

Wow, I really like the looks of that system.
I've been waiting for something that will bump up performance without the increase in noise. Looks like this may be the ticket!
Keep us posted on how it works out for you.

First 300 kms. Conclusions for now

a)amazing sound, how to describe it ...serious, deep and nice, but nothing so loud
b)No pinging la la la I am happy
c)I did not run any test, the maintenance guys told me, I gained 8hp. Do not know whether it is true, but you feel the bike more powerful
d)Cleaner acceleration, no gaps-coughs when you throttle up

Regards

Nice pipe Alatriste.
Can you get a video of the bike with your new exhaust sound. Perhaps at idle and driving by the camera.
Is this a slip on muffler of entire exhaust system?

Chris

Looks nice. Motowheels doesn't list the exhaust for the Buell. How much for the exhaust?

I will try to get the video ASAP (Hope my digital can do it :-)).It is a slip on . HD recommends the K&N filter + plus the race ECM.

It is a bit expensive 800 eur only the pipe

I am looking forward to hearing it, can you post some more photos? Also, is the exhaust "E" stamped for Europe street legality?

I e-mailed Motowheels to get more info and Matt at Trojan has been giving me some options. I am just at a loss of what to do. I still like the Drummer, Remus sounds like a good choice, HP look interesting and this Quat D - need more info to decide.

Sean, I'm about 40 minutes from Kissell Motorsports. I could ask about the pipe next time I stop in.

They are the local dealer for Scorpion Helmets and the EXO1000 is "supposed" to be delivered around mid Sept. I stop in about once a month to check.

Hi , let me know which details you want in the photos, I will take some more this weekend. Related to the legality I have a copy of the official certificated that states the pipe is legal :-) according to EEC regulations
