I'm hearing a strange bearing type noise on my 98 m2.It goes like this-in neutral, when idleing, sitting on the bike there is a rather loud noise coming from the primary.however, the noise goes away when you get off the seat, unload the suspension, put the bike on the kickstand,or clunk it into first gear.Any help would be greatly appriciated.

Actually the check engine light didn't come on until I was almost home. All riding with light on was of moderate speed. No full out power. Bike ran normal, with the surge present. Drove straight to the dealer within twenty minutes and left the bike. I understand from the tech that there has already been a part change on the required interactive exhaust electronics. Dealer called Buell directly and discovered the part change and course of action to take. Interesting to note that "no" codes were collected in the bike. (hence, the call to Buell)....

I don't really have an answer to your problem but after reading Lou's answer my head was sideways trying to understand what the heck was going on. Then later I read your answer and had to laugh. I AGREE.

A couple of things to check. Primary tensor and chain tension. Check trans (secondary)pulley bearing. Check the trans pulley it self. Check clutch assembly and engine pulley for tightness. What I'm saying is check your primary and transmission area.

08 Buell Uly. The interactive exhaust module arrived today at dealer and he put it on in no time. I rode it fifty miles tonight and it ran great. The surge is 99% gone. Just a little left under 2600 RPM. Nothing to bother with. I think that little surge is just the sign of the times with current air cooled engines. The bike gained good low speed manors and is a pleasure to ride. Problem started from day one and took a 3 day ride on the Blue Ridge PKWY to finally break the part enough to throw a Check Eng Light. Fine now. Yaa Smoky Mountain HD

Thanks,ya'll,the primary chain was way too loose.I'm gonna drian and replace the fluid this weekend, one good suggestion was to look very closely in fluid for some extra metallic sludge.Hey Lloucksgl, did your air cooled engine still surge when you rode in the rain?
