Hey guys I just put a K&N open intake on my S3 and its running pretty lean. Not bad really just a little lean and I can feel a slight dip around 5,000 Rpm. I need to rejet the carb and would like some suggestions. Thanks guys

1)#48 low speed jet
2)air/fuel screw about 3.25 to 3.5 turns from bottom.
3)raise the needle about 1 clip or use a washer from a old shovel off the points set #3248 ? I think...
4)drill the slide (air) hole with a 1/8 drill bit and your done.

I have a 97 S3 and I just completed a little bit of jetting myself. Although I only put a #45 slow jet in mine. I also have the needle shimmed about a 1/16" and the hole drilled out....Here is something that gets me confused though? I do not see much change in the way my bike idles when I screw the air/fuel screw all the way in and all the way out. Any thoughts?

There should be a noticeable difference turning the air mixture screw in or out, especially in. It should die from fuel starvation.

The next time you take out the idle screw, try squirting some carb cleaner with the little plastic tube up into the orifice. There might be crusted varnish-like fuel residue in there.

Thanks Sparky I will try that. It would surprise me if there was some gunk in there. I will put it like this...the previous owner of my bike was not the best at maintaining it. :-)
