At slow speeds, my front brakes "pulse" on my 2000 M2. I have HAD to remove the front rotar to change the tires - but I reinstalled with torque to spec. I think I have a problem w/my front rotar. Has anyone else experienced this? Anything else I should be looking at? | ||

On my S-2 I reversed my pads and it cured it--they are the same either direction.It was wear pattern,IIRC Al Lighton suggested it. | ||

Has anyone else experienced this? Yes, I had this problem on my 2000 M2. Turned out to be a hairline crack in the rotor. Take a look at the rotor, particularly near the ends of the air slots. | ||

Change to the Lyndahl Gold pads. BTW, you should not have to remove the rotor to change tires. However, the pads must be removed and all the pistons need to be pushed in all the way especially the top one on both sides. It will clear but just by a RCH. Brad | ||

Just make sure you clean off all the gunk that has accumulated on the exposed part of the piston before you push it in. | ||

Good point. I didn't even mention it as I just kind of do that stuff automatically. I figure since it's off and accessable, might as well clean it all up... | ||

Tim You are measuring the warp of the rotor. I suspect it's not as big a problem with the ZTL disc as it is with the tubers but have it checked if the brake pads don't correct the problem. Joe | ||

Brake report - well - I switch pads as recommended and checked for cracks in the rotar. Both did not yield any results. It stops - but I really hate the pulsing feel. I changed tires today - ditched the Avon's in favor the the BT021. I only rode about 20 miles - just to make sure I put everything back together OK.  Tomorrow I head out on a 1,000 mile ride to Utah (going to the Buell 1125R track day). No one is open tomorrow - so am going to ride as is for this trip. It will be mostly superslab riding - and at speeds stops with no problem. Will through in a bottle of fresh DOT4 brake fluid - just in case. On the DOT 4 - I think I have a pretty good quantity of DOT 4 For ABS brakes. I have several bikes - some use DOT 5, some DOT 3, and my cars use DOT 4. What I had was the ABS DOT 4 - would that make a difference? I ASSUMED DOT was a standard - and the ABS line on the bottle was marketing speak. I may bleed out the front brakes entirely early tomorrow and replace with fresh NON ABS DOT4 - will certainly do if anyone thinks that might contribute to the problem. Thanks, |
