Hi I have a 2000 X-1 with 20,000 miles on it. Just put in new battery also. Went to start it, and was DEAD..no juice anywhere, no fuel pump. Later all I got was slight weak dash lights came on. Checked battery and looks like its draining while in the bike. I have heard of stator problems cropping up with this many miles on the bike. Just before it was fine: starting right up with strong battery. A few days later was completely dead. I checked the obvious, fuses and kick stand cut out. Any tips?

Follow the procedure in the manual to diagnose possible charging system problems.

Check voltage across battery terminals when bike is running at a fast idle, around 2000 rpm. If below 13V, you likely have a bad charging system component or break in the circuitry. I think your suspicion of a bad stator is well-founded.
