I bought a used '00 M2 with stripped seat mounting screw threads. Are there any solutions other than removing everything and epoxying a bolt in the housing to fit a new fastener into the mix/ BTW, my M2 has a carbon fiber under cover (under the seat and upper black plastic) that I know nothing about. it has a really cool turning knob that was either stripped or too small and incompatible with the OEM screw slot. any help? the whole assembly flapps dangerously every time i run over an irregularity on the pavement. peace

Can you show me a pic of the basic problem?

Hey 98 S1,
Thanks for your input. I'll try to take some pics when I get my camera back, hopefully by tomorrow. basically, the threads in the socket under the seat are stripped and the screw that is affixed into the carbon fiber fender eliminator assy looks like a 5/16th's wood screw. I'm considering prying the existing screw free and epoxying a bolt in place under the seat then running a stainless steel bolt through the whole contraption. It flaps loudly when I run over bumps and dips.

The seat nut is riveted in so you could carefully remove the staples and the foam and drill out the rivets then replace the nut, rerivet, replace foam and restaple. Or just replace the seat. There should be some available here. I think the rivets would be much better than epoxy. Also you can match the bolt to the nut and mount it so if it does get loose it will not fall out. I know mine has loosened and glad it could not be lost. Just my 2 cents worth.
