Hey,

I just picked up an 03 xb9r with 4k miles on it..... I have a couple questions and a troubleshooting question.

1. What fuel octane should I be putting in it One rider said regular and another said premium.

2. When riding what is the ideal riding RPM for a buell?

3. While riding at a sustained speed (i.e 30) and occasionally on acceleration, the bike will bog down super quick , but it is not a knock and the lights on the dash and headlights do not lose any power while it is having its "attitude" with me.

4. Now the realllll problem. This morning I took the bike out to go to work and turned it on and let it do its starting procedure. When i pressed the ignition button it turned over once and then stopped(has happened before) BUT upon second attempt its just CLICKED repeatedly. I double checked everything and tired again just more clicking. What gives?

Thanks a TON to whoever can help me out. Today is the only nice day in the forecast this week here in northern NY.

Jeremy,
I'll be in Saranac on the 13th! I've got the same bike.
1)I've used 87 forever with no problem.
2)Ideal? no power under 2500, max power seems to be above 5000, somewhere in between. Riding in 5th gear, you have no choice 75mph on the highway is somewhere above 4000, I'm always trying to find "6th"!
3) Bog down super quick? do you mean it coughs? Backfires through the intake... Mine does that sometimes if I've given it too much throttle when it's cold? Can you feel it through the air box cover?
4) have you checked the big wire connection at the starter for cleanliness and for 12v while it's clicking, that would determine if its the solenoid or the starter. Also is the clicking in the relay under left dash panel or is it in the solenoid at starter?

Hey Ricochet,

We should be in town then....Hope the weather gets a bit nicer!....

1. Excellent
2. Even better

3. It isnt reallly an audible noise...but "cough" definitly sums it up better as to what it feels like...I will see if i can feel it thru the intake.

4. I have not checked any of the electronics as i was late for work (of course). After I posted I realized that a possible cause might be that my fiance left the bike in park when she meant to lock the forks so it could be a dead battery?!... (it is actually her bike....we r sharing until the dr's give me te okay to ride so i can get my own.) ....

Anyway... Thanks For the Response
